Whats ticking?!

Didn’t know where else to post this!

There’s a ticking noise in my lounge. I don’t have a clock. I’ve investigated (on my hands and knees) and drawing a blank. Thought it might’ve been next door with a new REALLY LOUD clock but that’s unlikely isn’t it and not really coming from that direction.

Driving me insane. Any ideas?!

You had the heating on. The floorboards, pipes, window frame, settee, table, etc, all got warmer. Which is usually accompanied by a ticking noise as they expand.

Then you turned it off. Ticking noise as thing contract.

Ewan the dream
Sheep ticks when he is running out of battery?!

Iwantacookie · 07/09/2019 07:08

Smoke alarm? Damn thing beeps every couple of minutes when it's running out of battery.
The ones wired to the mains do that too for some bizarre reason. That might of just been mine though where the housing association thought I could put up with beeping every 2 minutes for 14 days until they could come out Hmm

A couple of years ago part of next doors tv aerial broke off during heavy winds. It was still connected by wires and would tap against the main body of the aerial. The sound travelled down the chimney. I could hear it in the living room and my bedroom. It would wake me up repeatedly. Took me weeks to work out where it was coming from. Once I knew what it was I could ignore it. That is until the glorious day it finally broke free.

I reckon it’s connected to hearing going on for the first time this season too.

Heating!

Apologies for the hijack, OP, and I hope the ticking has stopped.

@flouncyfanny please don't feed mealworms to hedgehogs, they cause Metabolic Bone Disease (very nasty)

Do you have anything that makes a tick/tap noise if you tap it, that's sat close to a wall? There was a ticking in my bedroom. I eventually figured out it was my lumie SAD light, with the glass cover thing touching the wall - when it was windy, apparently there was some kind of vibration coming through the wall that made it tick. Couldn't feel it physically, but apparently just enough that it resonated with the light cover. Now I just shift it out when I hear ticks (the cats keep pushing it against the wall in their races across my bedstand).

Sorry guys! I didn’t find out last night but when dh came home in the early hours, he found a clock behind the tv. I’ve never seen this clock before. I’ve no idea why or how it was varying the tick! Sorry for the anticlimax!!
