To ask for some party themes for a 5 year old...

MessyMummy15 · 06/09/2019 20:11

So my son is about to turn 5 at the end of October but I'm stuck for ideas for a party.

I have two kids but 10 nieces and nephews and my two best friends have 5 kids between them so the absolute minimum kids attending would be 17. Usually once we factor in cousins kids and school friends etc it can come up to about 30 kids. 😬😬 so usually I just rent a hall and do a theme.

So previously we have had
1st - pirate party
2nd - under the sea party
3rd - Halloween hunt in the dark
4th - Disco.

But this year I am totally stuck. I have a large garden so was well up for the idea of projecting a movie and just putting down blankets and handing out popcorn type thing but the weather at the end of October isn't going to be good enough so I have to think of something else.
Kids range from 14 years to 2 years youngest. (If that helps)

Have also considered bowling, cinema etc but I think paying per child for up to 25/30 children is gonna be overly costly.

Usual budget is about £200 that's to cover venue, food, decorations, games, prizes etc.

Anyone have any ideas they could throw at me?

(Sorry it's a bit ranty just didn't wanna drip feed)
Thanks in advance!! 😊

Lego party (I got the cheap willko Lego little car kits £1-2 I think, they had to assemble and I made a ramp and track (from willow track plates) and we did races. I then did other games that were Lego themed

Other themes could be Star Wars, Pokemon, minecraft, superheroes

Instead of having one big thing to entertain the kids you could have smaller stations of activities for them to rotate around

You could hire a magician,

WhyBirdStop · 06/09/2019 20:38

What would your son like? Surely asking him is the starting point.

WaterSheep · 06/09/2019 20:43

I'd definitely ask your son. If I had to plan for such a vast age range I would just do a generic party. Some games musical statues / chairs, pass the parcel, bubbles, dancing and a buffet.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 06/09/2019 20:47

I’d theme it based on whatever I had in the house or what was cheap in B&M bargains.

My 5 year old likes monsters, super heros, dinosaurs, pirates and rainbows.

olbndansmummy · 06/09/2019 20:48

Our dd was invited to a science party at 5 and they all made their own slime.
Would your ds like a magician? Or apparently jabberjacks do fab parties

Parttimewasteoftime · 06/09/2019 20:49

Is he sporty thinking football party outside goal prizes medals my youngest would love it?

MessyMummy15 · 06/09/2019 20:52

Thanks for all the replies.

I have asked him of course but he just wants to "have fun with all his cousins" he doesn't really mind about theme or activity.
It's usually a surprise till he gets there on the day.

He's really into dinosaurs at the moment. But as his birthday present I'm decorating his room as dinosaur theme so might be a dinosaur overkill? Lol. Or maybe not. I will consider this

I had a 5 yr old party with Spider-Man (grandad dressed up ) coming over the pond bridge 😂with an entertainer and food. It was the best day still talked about years later ! Sadly my son realised Spider-Man wore the same trainers as grandad and I still kept it goingbuntil this year 15 when my friend told him !

Could you do something like football, or trampolining, at the Sports Centre and get the older DC just to come to the birthday tea?
A treasure hunt?
Painting t shirts?

butmynameisveronica · 06/09/2019 20:58

If he likes dinosaurs, but has loads of dino stuff, how about animals? You could do a jungle or woodland theme with his favourite animals, there seems to be a lot of jungl-y stuff left over from summer beach party stock in the shops.

The projector idea you had sounds great, any reason you couldn't do that indoors? If you've got a big enough wall or even half a wall you could put out rugs, cushions and beanbags, hire a chocolate fountain or popcorn machine for snacks, put out bowls of crisps or sweets etc.

Howlovely · 06/09/2019 20:59

How about a forest party? Do you have any woodland near you?
Ideas for activities include
den building,
making leaf animals/stick skeletons/mud faces on trees
Toasting marshmallows
Treasure trail
Gruffalo themed games
Woodland theme party food (Pinterest)

I've done a couple of these quite successfully. Kids love it. Older kids can help with setting up treasure trail/marshmallow toasting etc. Parents stay too and most love it aswell. Offer them a cup of tea and a cake and they're happy!

My 5 year old had a science party. It was a hit! They all loved it. Made slime. And it was weirdly calm and controlled. Lots of laughing and smiling and giggling but no running around screaming

emilybrontescorsett · 06/09/2019 21:02

Space?
Mooncakes, rock cakes, biscuit stars, milky way treats, drinks such as Saturn's spice, Jupiter juice.
Dress as an astronaut or space traveller.

iloveredwine · 06/09/2019 21:20

slime party!

Ididit2019 · 06/09/2019 21:23

The Idea of a film projected sounds amazing but from previous experience I have found the attention span of a group of under 7 year olds for the duration of a film isn't great, they start to become very restless and inattentive.

SamsMumsCateracts · 06/09/2019 21:27

My five year old had a superhero party this year. All the children came dressed in superhero outfits and we hired a superhero bouncy castle.

MessyMummy15 · 06/09/2019 22:18

I would LOVE to do a forest party!! That sounds awesome... o

Glow in the dark party with torches, cooking marshmallows on a fire, dark shadow games etc

MessyMummy15 · 06/09/2019 22:22

Sorry pressed send too soon,

Would love to do a forest party nutlike the film idea it's just being careful of the weather.

Could do the film thing inside but my flat is wayyy to small so would have to hire a hall and like another poster mentioned I think in a hall the younger ones would loose interest and get bored easily as they can't saddle into the bedroom to play.

@butmynameisveronica that's a pretty solid theme. Jungle. Think that's gonna take top spot right now. He does like his animals!! 🤔

Re the forest parties, we've had them in late autumn and winter and whilst we've been lucky they've been dry a coukd have been cold. We planned everything incase it rained (so laminated the Gruffalo trail pics which means they can also be used again) but all the parents of the kids got behind it, all dressed appropriately and enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows! Those foam play tiles are great for sitting on if it's wet/too muddy and a gazebo or shelter of some kind for the food, kids love it!

TinyGhostWriter · 06/09/2019 23:05

Jungle is a great theme!
