To ask which baby formula is best?

I've posted in Chat but not had much response. DS is on C&G but he keeps being sick after feeding and has the most terrible runny poos. I believe it's an intolerance but I'm finding it hard to get a diagnosis from the GP.

I just keep getting palmed off with Gaviscon, which only works temporarily.

I'm beginning to think maybe it's his milk and it might be worth switching to something else. I know that regulation surrounding baby formulas are strict, but are they really all the same/similar? Confused

I just don't know what to do! Any recommendations would be great

I found mamia to be much better than aptimal (less bitty) plus much cheaper obviously hasn't agreed with your LO. I'd be a bit more assertive at the doctor's. Sounds like an intolerance and theres a lot to be said for mothers instinct. You know your baby more than anyone else. Be polite but don't be fobbed off.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/09/2019 16:52

Mine was like that and I put home on c&g comfort milk.Aptimil and c&g milk are made by the same company apparently.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/09/2019 16:52

Him not home

Rarfy · 06/09/2019 16:55

My baby had the most horrendous wind on cow and Gate and wet poos up her back all the time. I went to health visitor and Dr I don't know how many times. They eventually said cows milk intolerance but I wasnt confident in the diagnosis and didn't want to treat her for an allergy she probably didn't have.

I researched a lot and moved her over to hipp organic and wish I had done it as soon as I felt there was a problem. Was a game changer for us. Also used colactase drops for a while but I think the formula was the best thing.

GabbyChalice400 · 06/09/2019 16:56

Thanks @Rarfy. I think I'm going to try him on HIPP organic or Kendamil, depending on what's in my local Asda

I hope it helps him

Hipp organic is amazing milk. Really worked for my daughter with severe reflux (that and the ranitidine). We tried the nutrimigen milk and she came out in an allergy to it (ironic to have an allergy reaction to the anti allergy milk!). Hipp organic just seemed to work on her.

fiorentina · 06/09/2019 17:22

We had similar with Aptamil and found Hipp Organic better.

harper30 · 06/09/2019 17:36

I think only Sainsbury's and Waitrose sell Kendamill. That's what we went with, for the organic and no palm oil reasons. DD went from breastfeeding to that formula pretty much with no problems 👍

Rarfy · 06/09/2019 18:07

I've never heard of kendamilk and one of the things I didn't like was when they suggested cows milk intolerance is that I would have to get it on prescription and I worried about running out.

If you do go for hipp our coop sells it £1 cheaper than anywhere else. Worth knowing. They also do the ready made cartons too which I prefer for out and about.

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 06/09/2019 18:36

I've had 3 babies and they've all had different milk. One had SMA, one had Aptamil and one had Aptamil but didn't seem to get on with it so had Hipp Organic instead.

DefConOne · 06/09/2019 18:38

I found Hipp organic great for my two. Initially I fell for the hype with Aptamil but a fellow reflux baby mum gave me the Hipp advice. She said it had come from a paediatrician treating her daughter for reflux (surprised me as they aren’t supposed to recommend brands).

GabbyChalice400 · 06/09/2019 18:58

Thanks everyone. I've bought HIPP organic.

The packaging threw me a bit. Do you leave one sachet in the box at a time?

OP posts:
Rarfy · 06/09/2019 19:00

I would just dispense it into a cow and gate box tbh. Give it a good clean and dry. The hipp organic packaging is a bit annoying.

I keep both sachets in the cardboard box but obviously just open one at a time, than I have three or four formula dispensers on the go and fill them, once empty wash and refill. I find that the easiest way to make feeds up.

GabbyChalice400 · 06/09/2019 19:02

@Rarfy Oooh, good idea!! Never thought of that

CustardCreamLover · 06/09/2019 19:17

We tried hipp organic and it gave our baby the most horrendous wind and poos. Very smelly and he was in a lot of pain. Just to warn you!

VickRyan1 · 07/09/2019 06:35

They're all exactly the same, no difference whatsoever between the cheapest, or most expensive. Legally they have to be the same

GiBlues · 07/09/2019 06:57

we used Hipp organic. Dd was on aptamil and had terrible constipation/stomach problems. We switched her to Hipp organic after reading recommendations online and within a day or two she was so much better.
So we used it for ds too and never had a problem.
I recommend it to everyone now that asks.

WhyBirdStop · 07/09/2019 07:42

When I was combi feeding we tried aptamil and it gave ds horrendous trapped wind, switched to Hipp organic and he was fine. He just BF now but will still take the odd bottle of Hipp if needed (I struggle to express). We use the kendamil porridge and if I'd known about then earlier would've probably used the formula, it's available in our local Sainsbury's now. They don't do any ready made though so that might influence your decision.

Saddler · 07/09/2019 07:48

Aptimil pro futura we used

PleaseSirMyGoat · 07/09/2019 07:50

No, nutritionally they have to be the same, that doesn't mean they contain the same ingredients

Saddler · 07/09/2019 07:51

Oh and the pre made stuff in the bottle was much better than the powder. We used that all the time at first then the powder during the day and pre made stuff first and last feed

OrangeSlices998 · 07/09/2019 07:57

Hope the switch works OP. Keep going to the GP, see a different doctor if you’re concerned, and be very clear you’re concerned he has a dairy allergy and you want them to rule it out.

Lydia55y · 07/09/2019 08:01

I’ve been wanting to try Kendamil, those that have, is it frothy? Also has anyone tried Kendamil normal vs Kendamil organic? There is a £3 price difference per tub plus 100g less in the organic version. Just wondering if the difference is worth it?!

We were on hipp organic and seemed ok on that but I tried Sainsbury’s Little Ones after the despatches programme. It seems to taste nicer and no side effects as such just is very frothy doesn’t mix as well and my baby doesn’t seem as satisfied for as long as with the hipp.

PleaseSirMyGoat · 07/09/2019 08:33

Kendamil organic is frothy, but it mixes fine. I've not tried the normal.

The price difference is worth it for me because I wanted to use the most natural product possible. I might have felt differently though if I was fully bottle feeding as the cost would definitely have been noticed. I breast fed until 9 months, then mixed fed until 12 so didn't use a huge amount.

JojoLapin · 07/09/2019 08:53

If you're on C&G, Aptamil is basically the same as they're both Danone.

Being owned by the same company doesn’t mean it is the same product. Garnier and Shu Uemura are hardly the same products and yet they are 2 hair care brands owned by L’Oreal.
