Would Poirot survive in an internet age?

What would Agatha Christie have made of it?

And can anyone explain the plot of Sparkling Cyanide to me? I have all AC's books and love to read them as I fall asleep. But I have never understood the ending of Sparkling Cyanide.

I have all the AC books on Audible and I listen to them regularly. In between M.C. Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth entire series.

I do like to listen to a crime story! Grin

I liked Lally Bowers' version in The Agatha Christie Hour much more.

She was good wasn't she, she capture Christies speech pattern really well.

Zoe Wanamaker apparently wears fake breasts, although why I'll never understand as she looks identical without them.
I decided I'd wear something small that gives you a feeling of being substantial, so the costume designer found this transvestite shop which sold fake breasts.

Jean Stapleton's Ariadne Oliver just chewed through every bit of scenery she could find in Ustinov's "Dead Man's Folly" way too over the top.

ShatnersWig · 10/09/2019 15:47

CaptainKirks Lally Bowers was never really a household name as she was more a theatre actress but was hugely popular in the profession. Her only real "TV claim to fame" was a role in 4 series of the Peggy Mount/Pat Coombs ITV sitcom You're Only Young Twice in the late 1970s. She died only two years after her appearance as Ariadne at the age of 67. I always thought, had she lived, she'd probably have had a lovely late flowering of good TV roles for another 10 years or so - there are a couple of roles in the Hickson Miss Marples she'd have been splendid in.

MOTOE is on BBC radio I player atm. John Moffat as Hercule Poirot, first 2 episodes have been aired but I like to wait til the end of the week and listen to them all at once, because I really know how to treat myself!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/09/2019 20:27

How many episodes are there in total mitebite?

plunkplunkfizz · 10/09/2019 20:37

I love John Moffat. He’s a bit more wry than David Suchet’s slightly snippy version.

Watched Murder in the Mews today. I’d forgotten how racist some of the dialogue (and accents) were. The books have the “excuse” of being of their time but the TV series was (very) late 80s and 90s.

Mitebiteatnite · 10/09/2019 21:21

I think there's usually 5 episodes. So they'll all be available in time for the weekend. 2 and a half hours of uninterrupted listening!

Mitebiteatnite · 10/09/2019 21:22

I've said it before, but it's worth saying again. The way John Moffat says 'the little grey cells' makes me smile more than anything else he says Grin

sweetsaltypopcorn · 10/09/2019 22:00

I love David Suchet! He is one of my holy trinity of Davids - Suchet, Jason and Attenborough.

banivani · 11/09/2019 09:19

Thank you for the bbc radio top! I’m enjoying it even though the foreign accents are a bit dodgy ;)

TheMustressMhor · 11/09/2019 18:08

I always think that Zoe Wanamaker is only capable of playing herself IYSWIM.

Had to laugh about the fake tits though.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 11/09/2019 18:36

Totally off topic. My DMIL knows Suchet. She says he is absolutely charming. A really lovely man.

TheMustressMhor · 11/09/2019 18:43

Also totally off-topic. Philip Jackson (Japp) thought AC's books were awful.

Patroclus · 12/09/2019 10:37

I used to think the same about ZW, Mustress- until I saw her in Prime Suspect. That was an eye opener.

Patroclus · 12/09/2019 10:39

Yeah I get the impression David Suchet is a diamond. His wife says she used to come home to him still in the character of Poirot all the time. His depiction of Robert Maxwell was brilliant/hilarious.

TheMustressMhor · 18/09/2019 17:19

Did ZW wear the fake boobies in Prime Suspect, Patroclus?

Patroclus · 18/09/2019 18:38

I seem to remember she threatened to expose them at one point, so we very nearly found out

Patroclus · 18/09/2019 18:40

Here she is. Soooooo early 90s

TheMustressMhor · 19/09/2019 22:54

Delightful, Patroclus and thank you.

Watched Evil Under the Sun tonight.

Have always wondered why they decided to remove Linda Marshall from the plot and insert Lionel instead.

It doesn't change the story in any way (except that there is no mention of Lionel's making a Voodoo doll of Arlena and sticking pins in it.)
