Post edited by MNHQ at OP's request Many British people living overseas were unable to vote in the referendum and European elections due to delays with postal votes. If there is a snap election coming, can I urge you all to register for a proxy vote? And you might like to know that your proxy can be anywhere in the UK as long as they in turn then register for a postal vote eleven days ahead of the election. You can also ask a Commonwealth citizen resident in the UK to be a proxy. See here for more details: www.britonsvotingabroad.co.uk/votingfromabroad/

I’m as proxy for my DF, his vote has to be in the area where he was last registered in the UK, which is no where near where I live, I have a postal vote for him.

To any British voters overseas who need a proxy vote, your the local branch of the party you want to vote for can help. Indeed, they will be delighted to. Contact them and they will give you the name and details of a local party member who will act as your proxy. You can at least be certain they will vote for the party you want...

That’s good to know. Means I don’t need to feel I’m hugely inconveniencing anyone

If you have been out of the UK for 15+ years you are ineligible to vote.

Nah sorry but they moved. Why should they get a say? We live here, they decided not to

What a load of old shit. They remain British citizens, are affected by British issues and they have a LEGAL RIGHT to vote. Fortunately your ridiculous, small minded opinion makes no difference to that and you don't get to decide who votes.

My younger son is currently studying in Australia for this academic year so we were having this conversation on WhatsApp yesterday.
Our council is going to send the proxy nomination form to me to post out to him, which he will post back to the council having nominated either me or his dad to vote on his behalf.
