Spotted this in the sun.

Many allow 88kg (13.8 stone) for men, 70kg (11 stone) for women and 35kg (5.5 stone) for children

This bit confused me a little bit, is that their estimate they use for calculating fuel consumption? My partner and children weigh more than that estimate

I wonder what their weight limit will be? 🤔
And I can see shit will hit the fan when/if this does come into force, and passengers are excluded from the flight

I usually put on about half a stone during my holiday - what happens on the return flight?
According to the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
'For years, the fabulously beautiful planet of Bethselamin increased its booming tourist industry without any worries at all. Alas, as is often the case, this was an act of utter stupidity, as it led to a colossal cumulative erosion problem. Of course, what else could one expect with ten billion tourists per annum? Thus today the net balance between the amount you eat and the amount you excrete while on the planet is surgically removed from your body weight when you leave; so every time you go to the lavatory there, it is vitally important to get a receipt'

bombomboobah · 06/09/2019 18:35

perhaps you could lose the weight by running on a treadmill to generate power for batteries in the plane

elfies · 06/09/2019 18:39

Some medical conditions are allowed an extra 10kg of carry on luggage for medical necessities if they get a doctors note (Insulin and medication for instance ) How could that be calculated ?

niugboo · 06/09/2019 18:50

@pickme newsflash. Being fat isn’t a protect characteristic under the equality act.

I am unable to read this article as I actively boycott the filthy rag but am I right to think this is all about calculating fuel usage rather than charging for 'excess wieght', therefore many people are getting themselves into a froth about nothing?

MissChananderlerbong · 06/09/2019 19:03

Air Fiji do this. Makes sense. Fuel costs money. If I'm charged excess luggage because it's a fuel cost then this makes sense

Metempsychosis · 06/09/2019 19:08

Yes Gibbonlover. Here is the original Independent story.

No one is going to fly rugby players then. Or tall women with a satisfactory BMI. If you are flying small planes then you do need to do it.

ToftyAC · 06/09/2019 19:39

So long as no one else outside of airline staff don’t know how much my fat ass weighs it doesn’t bother me that much if it is a case of calculating better how much fuel is required.

joystir59 · 06/09/2019 19:46

The usual awful, smug, self-righteous fat shaming from some posters, who clearly have no idea about the science behind weight gain and obesity and just want to feel superior because they are normal weight, it is tedious I have been far and the key to not being fat is dead simple, and requires no scientific knowledge- eat less and eat healthy.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/09/2019 19:49

They weigh you for helicopters too, as well as small planes

Hot air balloons too ... which is how some ladies at a local WI came to be left off an organised trip on them

Sadly, a significant number lied massively about their weight and the scenes at the launch site were deeply unpleasant

joystir59 · 06/09/2019 19:49

*Fat not far

bmbonanza · 06/09/2019 20:01

Airline weight police .....whatever next!

Sizeofalentil · 06/09/2019 20:08

I normally weigh 9st but went up to 11.5 when pregnant. Would I be charged extra or exempt I wonder?

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 06/09/2019 20:25

We have owned a few single engine Cessnas over the years and never asked the weight of our friends. You fill them full of fuel and as long as you can get the doors closed, you're good to go.

joystir59 · 06/09/2019 20:28

I'm 5'7" and 12 and a half stone and a size 12-14
Really? Because I'm 5.7 and weigh tenbstone and am size 12-14

joystir59 · 06/09/2019 20:29

Ten stone

Lockheart · 06/09/2019 20:39

I don't understand this angst about everyone knowing your weight (which wouldn't happen anyway!). Whether you're over or under weight is fairly obvious visually. Why does putting a number on that change anything?

Personally I couldn't tell you the difference between ten stone and twelve stone (for example) but I can certainly tell you when someone is carrying a little extra! I don't need to put a number on it to tell that.

I think build type matters. I’m the same height and at 10 stone I was a size 10. Now i’m at the top end of 11 stone and a size 12/14.

this happened years ago in Vegas when we booked to go on a flight over the Grand Canyon in one of those very small planes. It wasn't discreet either as it was a huge weighing scales that everyone could see. A mother and daughter were mortified when they were told they could not board and were given info for a coach trip instead.

We then proceeded on the most puke inducing flight where I remember praying for a safe landing. we did land safely at the top of the rim but the weather turned and began snowing leaving the plane grounded. We eventually got flown back on a huge ancient noisy tin can that was like an American airforce plane from the 1950's. It was so noisy we were given big old earphones to wear. Shuddering at the memory now 🤢

Vivianebrookskoviak · 06/09/2019 21:30

Reported in The S*n? Probably a load of utter drivel, I'd not believe a word of it. As a pp mentioned there's the equality act and the amount of controversy(screams of 'fat shaming' etc) it would cause if it really was a thing.

Vivianebrookskoviak · 06/09/2019 21:33

@bombomboobah hahaha yeah!

I'm surprised that The S*n haven't tried to change the place name and report that as fact! Grin
