To send back a gift because I’m a rubbish cook?

Imustbemad00 · 04/09/2019 23:03

Somebody brought me a electric pressure cooker as I’d been talking about wanting one.
I have no idea what to do with it. Tried to use it and failed miserably. Instructions are rubbish. Google is not helping.
Is it rude to send it back so it doesn’t end up gathering dust? Does anybody have one and know how on Earth you suss our cooking times for things?
Everyone says they’re brilliant 😩 must just be me

I wouldn't send it back to the person who gave it to you. Give it away to a friend, eBay it, stick it on Freecycle or whatever if you don't want it.

KC225 · 05/09/2019 07:47

It would be rude to send it back to the person who chose it for you. Have you looked up any how to videos on you tube.

MrsExpo · 05/09/2019 07:51

Yes, that would be rude IMO. Either make the effort to learn how to use it, keep it somewhere gathering dust if you really can’t be bothered, or dispose of it on eBay/gumtree or where ever.Clealy, whoever gave this to you thought they were being nice/helpful as you said you wanted one.

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2019 07:56

Genuinely I don't know how people grow up and don't know it's rude to return gifts. Confused

MrsPnut · 05/09/2019 07:58

I have one and love it, which brand do you have and what would you like to cook?

I've made bolognese, curry and a steak and ale casserole this week in mine.

AudacityOfHope · 05/09/2019 08:01

You said you wanted one Confused

Read the instructions, watch YouTube videos. Don't hand the thing back because you can't be arsed working it out, that would be beyond rude.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 05/09/2019 08:02

I just google cooking times for anything I'm cooking or I would follow a recipe and use the time from that, I always say I'll make a list of my common ones but I always forget 😂

100% agree.

MRex · 05/09/2019 08:19

It's incredibly rude to return a gift. Look up recipes on Google e.g. www.brit.co/beginner-pressure-cooker-recipes/. Or give it to British Heart Foundation, they take good quality electricals.

BaronessBomburst · 05/09/2019 08:21

I used to use mine a lot! It was the biggest saucepan I had. I never used it as a pressure cooker though.

WhatsMyPassword · 05/09/2019 08:24

So ask 'everyone' in your social circle who uses one. Im sure one of them can help you.

It's really not that challenging to google a cooking times chart. fastcooking.ca/pressure_cookers/cooking_times_pressure_cooker.php

dottiedodah · 05/09/2019 08:26

There are many tutorials on line ,and recipe books also.Try and persevere if you can .They are a vast improvement on the old 1970s type .Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error TBH!

KateWrong · 05/09/2019 08:27

A colleague of mine recently returned a gift I had bought her while on holiday (lovely set of chopsticks), saying she doesn’t use chopsticks. It’s just Confused odd. If you don’t want it, just sell it or give it away.

Lyricallie · 05/09/2019 08:29

Totally off topic: I love mine I managed to make risotto in it last night in 7 minutes once I chopped everything. I was so dubious but it was really yummy.

There's a good website called something like thekitchn and it has instant pot timings. Or just Google more generally.

pistolknight · 05/09/2019 08:31

Is it an instant pot- they’re amazing we use ours at least 3 times a week and more in winter have a look at the face book groups for help and recipes or some easy starter ones here

BeanBag7 · 05/09/2019 08:33

What do you mean "send it back"?
Go to the person why kindly bought a gift (that you asked for) and say "here is a used item I dont want, please get me something better"?
Obviously you dont send it back. Keep it and try again - it cant be that hard - or sell it. You cant return a gift, especially one that has been opened and used!

TatianaLarina · 05/09/2019 08:55

Of course you can’t send it back.

If it’s a One Pot the instructions tell you how long to cook stuff for.

Pressure cooker recipes on Google also tell you how long.

lavenderbluedilly · 05/09/2019 09:00

Oh god don’t return it - how rude! Perhaps donate it to a charity shop or sell it on eBay if you really can’t face using it. My in-laws are awful for doing this with gifts - FIL once returned a holiday gift to DH!

beckyb123 · 05/09/2019 09:04

Find a recipe for something you like on YouTube e.g. Chilli, cook along with the video.I agree the instruction book is rubbish.

flowery · 05/09/2019 09:04

Why would you send it back? How awful!

If you don’t want it, eBay it or something.

Kokeshi123 · 05/09/2019 09:08

Regift it. Or see if there is somewhere that would take it as a donation, like a women's shelter or low-income family support group or something.

Nomoremilk · 05/09/2019 09:10

Send it back? Like a petulant child having a tantrum because they can't do it? Get a grip.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/09/2019 09:12

So you’ve mentioned you’d like it so not an unsolicited gift and then used it and now want to return it??

Accountant222 · 05/09/2019 09:18

I bought one and agree the instructions are rubbish, I bought a recipe book from Amazon just for instapots and it's much clearer now. I've made some lovely food out of the recipe book.

Toooldtocareanymore · 05/09/2019 09:31

you have used it, so they cant return to shop, what on earth makes you think its appropriate to return it to the person who gave it to you? unless they said they were thinking of getting one for themselves.
I do hope you were just joking, some of these gadgets are very frustrating.

So deal with the problem start a new tread in the food section with name and brand and maybe someone can help you use it and help with recipe's etc
