To think this was a bit weird

I was out having lunch with my sister and DS who is 10 weeks old. He was sat on my lap as a lady walked over and asked if she could say hello, I said of course and so sat him up on the table holding him so she could see him better. This lady then reached for DS and said 'Oh you come here to me' and before I even had time to see what was happening she had taken him straight from me. I felt slightly weird about it but thought okay just go with it. She then kissed him on the cheek and just stood there holding him. She seemed perfectly nice, of course was just wanting to coo over him and I didn't say anything as I was just a bit shocked and she gave him back soon after, I just found it a bit strange.

AIBU in thinking this was a bit weird?

Your reaction is normal - it is weird. However, I often want to do this... stroke their little hands and feet or even pick them up and give them loads of cuddles and kisses. And I’m not old so it isn’t an old person thing. I don’t actually do it though, because it’s weird..

No, I don't think that was the right way for a stranger to approach a Mum and her baby, and then pick the baby up and kiss him. Maybe some women will do this, but she isn't considering how the Mother feels about this.

My mum would do this if she thought she could get away with it. She always coos over babies when she seems them. I had to tell her to stop touching them as I know I'd go nuts if a stranger touched my baby. In fairness she is only being friendly but it's not on in my eyes.

Bloody weird behaviour imo, but then I think I'm probably missing the cooing over babies gene that most older women are supposed to have.

Go to Italy or Greece. This would not be unusual, in fact it was common here years ago, until everyone was looked at as a trafficker or paedophile.

I agree, I think a lot of people probably want to do this(without the kissing maybe) but don't, which is why I was shocked she actually had the guts to do it.
