To go to A&E for this?

Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice on what to do. Basically I've had what I suspect to be a UTI and thrush (yes, both!) for just over a week now and have tried treating it with home remedies and over the counter medicines to no avail. I have attempted to get a doctors appointment but was told I couldn't get one til the 24th of September. I'm in agony at this point and today I think the UTI has spread to my kidneys as even strong pain killer (cocodamol) has not masked the pain. The burning when I pee has gotten far worse to the point I'm scared to go to the toilet and the discomfort is unbearable. Went to the walk in clinic earlier this week as I thought maybe it was instead a sexual health issue but was simply told I needed to go to my own GP practice and get my urine tested for a UTI first to 'rule that out' as they don't do it there. So when I went to the GP surgery to ask about leaving a urine sample she told me I need to make a doctors appointment alongside it. I don't know what to do next, have tried phoning for any cancellations but no luck and I'm completely at my wits end with this. I'm in absolute agony and crying any chance I get!! Would going to A&E be too dramatic? As I understand a UTI is not at all considered an emergency but it is to me at this pointSadscared I could be sitting for hours only for them to turn their nose up at me
TIA

Yes I would go. Or do you have a walk in clinic in a hospital or health centre?

Technonan · 04/09/2019 18:38

Go to A&E. You're in bad pain, you've tried the other routes.

Madvixen · 04/09/2019 18:38

Can you not call 111 and get an out of hours GP appointment?

Dizzylin · 04/09/2019 18:38

Ring 111 and explain your situation, they maybe able to get you an out of hours appointment somewhere.

Hooe you're feeling better soon Flowers

xSharonNeedlesx · 04/09/2019 18:39

Don’t you have an out of hours gp service or some sort of minor injuries?

bloodywhitecat · 04/09/2019 18:39

Call 111? I had a UTI recently with some red flag symptoms, 111 got me seen quickly by the appropriate service.

Dizzylin · 04/09/2019 18:39

*Hope

camelfinger · 04/09/2019 18:39

Can you call 111 and see if they make you an out of hours appointment? (Not sure if that how it works where you are).

orangeshoebox · 04/09/2019 18:39

do you have an urgent care centre/walk in clinic nearby? (sometimes those are triaged through a&e)

or call 111 for an out of hours gp appointment.

Stressedout10 · 04/09/2019 18:39

Phone out of hours gp and get advice from them

WhatsMyPassword · 04/09/2019 18:40

It isn't an accident, it isn't an emergency. You'll be sent to urgent care where they will give you a care sheet and tell you to see your own GP if it's anything like our local one. If you're lucky you might get seen and get a prescription, but unlikely unless you have a kidney infection

TwattingDog · 04/09/2019 18:40

Phone 111 and ask for an OOH GP appointment. Not sure sitting for hours in A&E would do you any favours.

itbemay1 · 04/09/2019 18:40

Walk in centre or 111

Ffsnosexallowed · 04/09/2019 18:40

Tell your go you need an emergency appointment. Ask for a nurse to call you.

feathermucker · 04/09/2019 18:40

Try out of hours first before going to A&E.

Or try and get a same day appointment at your own G. P. tomorrow (you may need to push for this)

TheTrollFairy · 04/09/2019 18:41

Is this something a pharmacist could help with? (I haven’t had a UTI before)
Do you have out of hours drs?
I would go, being in pain is shit!

Span1elsRock · 04/09/2019 18:41

Our local hospital runs an out of hours GP clinic and to be honest, it's easier to get an appointment there than with our own practice.

Phone 111 and see if you have similar locally.

babsmargarita · 04/09/2019 18:41

I live in Northern Ireland so we don't have the 111 number, do I just look up the nearest out of hours and phone them directly?

itsabongthing · 04/09/2019 18:42

111 or whoever your out of hours provider is for your gp (if you phone the gp number there should be an answerphone message telling you)

MrsWednesdayteatime · 04/09/2019 18:42

Do you not have a minor injuries type walk in clinic?

& Flowers it sounds really uncomfortable x

itsabongthing · 04/09/2019 18:42

Sorry cross post!
Hopefully your gp will have a recorded message telling you what to do out of hours

babsmargarita · 04/09/2019 18:43

Ah I see. Thank you all so much, sorry if this all seems like a stupid question but I'm actually newly 18 and have never even made a drs appointment for myself before, have no idea how this all worksConfusedI will try and phone now!!

OP posts:
orangeshoebox · 04/09/2019 18:43

does your gp have a voice message where to call out of hours?

Quartz2208 · 04/09/2019 18:43

Your gp surgery is horrific and you should complain uti can be v dangerous FIL had stroke like symptoms caused by an untreated uti)

Get seen tonight

WhoWants2Know · 04/09/2019 18:44

I agree that you should try 111 first because they will help you get seen fastest. If you have tried the OTC remedies and it hasn't responded, then you do need to be seen pretty quickly before it progresses any further. They may send you to A&E anyway in case your kidneys are involved.
