To fly Premium Economy whilst my boyfriend is in Economy?

Basically, found a really good deal on premium economy long haul. Not only is it a good service, but I also need to get some more points to keep up status/ earn airmiles etc.

So I want to take advantage of this deal and fly premium Econ, but my partner of 4 years wants to save money and go regular. We are each paying for our own flights.

So I am going to suggest to him that he flies econ, and I'll fly premium.

I'd consider swapping with him for one flight, I'm sure they wouldn't notice.
I'd get 2 x hold luggage with my flights, and he could then not pay for hold luggage and we can have one each of mine.

Is this an outrageous idea ?

Stay in PE.
I have flown many times with DH and DC sometimes we sit together sometimes not. Neither of us are big talkers on the plane, although if it is overnight and economy I’d rather sit/lean on him/them than a stranger
On our next planned trip we are considering PE or Business, I have back issues and find economy seating painful for long haul he doesn’t, looking at the seat configuration in business there isn’t much chance of talking without standing up so it won’t matter if we are not together.

I'd go premium economy's

  • economy. Why be uncomfortable for that long if you don't need to be.

The only outrageous thing about it is offering to swap. Why on earth would you do this?

Personally, I couldn't do this. I'd rather fly Economy with whoever I'm travelling with, it's part of the holiday and the memories of the trip. Especially a long haul flight with my DH, we snuggle and chat, it's enjoyable time together. Sharing experiences is a privilege when you have a loving, happy relationship.

Him in Economy while I was in PE would just feel really off.

And to be honest if this was a man booking himself in PE and was happy for his female partner to travel in Economy I think you'd have cries of LTB.

^I agree. I feel sorry for your boyfriend

Why would anyone feel sorry for him? It's not like he can't afford it. They can both afford it, one of them want's to, one doesn't, so one does it and one doesn't. No issue. Also op didn't have to offer to pay half the price difference for her oh but she did. He still declined. his choice

I wouldn't. Spending time with people and shared experience is one of the best bits of the holiday. And in the end, you are all stuck in a chilly, over-dry cabin with the stench of bad food and cramped loos, watching the same bad audio version of Bohemian Rhapsody on a loop. Having a tiny bit more leg room and a bit of cotton over the top of your head rest isn't imo worth the extra ££££.
