I have hit a blank and need advice...

I am about to undergo a 2 year training programme for a legal qualification and have just received an email from my assessor, introducing herself.

I am writing my reply but for the life of me have no idea how to phrase "it is nice to meet you" in an email. Because I haven't actually met her, she just emailed me. I was going to put "it's nice to be introduced to you!" but she wasn't introduced to me, she introduced herself.

I am sure I am being really thick and the answer is obvious but I have hit a mental block and need some help this morning :(

Thank you in advance and have a great day!

Thank you for contacting me?

Poppins2016 · 03/09/2019 10:55

It's great to hear from you.

WarmSausageTea · 03/09/2019 11:01

‘Thank you for your email’ is always a safe start.

If it’s going to happen I would end with ‘I look forward to meeting/speaking with you’ and sign off with Regards (I hate Kind Regards. Regards are automatically kind, in my opinion.), or, if it feels appropriate, Best Wishes.

Thank you so much, I knew I'd find help here. I am just so nervous about making sure I get it right that in the end, nothing I think of sounds appropriate so needed some sense from other people! Flowers

I am very glad to make your acquaintance.

I am very glad to make your acquaintance.

That's much too formal for a business email in 2019. Plain English is more professional than over-formality. Formality and politeness are not the same thing.

'Thanks for getting in touch' or 'Great to hear from you' would be fine.

If you're going be in touch with them regularly in future, then end by saying something like 'I look forward to working with you' or 'I'm sure we'll be in touch quite a lot over the next XX months - looking forward to it' if that's appropriate.

Nice to e-meet you?

TheCatsACunt · 03/09/2019 11:25

“It’s so lovely to hear from you, and I look forward to meeting you in person on DATE”.

GetUpAgain · 03/09/2019 11:40

It's fine to say nice to meet you in an email.

Dear x
Thanks for your email. It's great to hear from you and I look forward to working with you.

She will NOT be judging your reply. Good luck with the course.

UnaCorda · 03/09/2019 11:55

I think you need to chill out a bit! You'll never get through two years of a legal course if you stress to this extent about every tiny detail, especially regarding something which, when all's said and done, is fairly inconsequential.

Beesandcheese · 03/09/2019 11:57

Thank you for getting in touch, I hope we have a productive year/ look forward to meeting in person etc?

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 03/09/2019 12:00

thanks for taking the time to mail me all your info

then respond in kind with your details, and anything else you feel it would be relevant for her to know and arrange a meet up if appropriate.

smokeytoby · 03/09/2019 12:05

@UnaCorda Having previously just finished a testing 3 year legal qualification, I understandably have no concerns whatsoever about my capability of completing this upcoming course as it is not a regular occurrence for me to "stress" to this extent about every "tiny detail", but thank you for your concern nonetheless! It is simply a case of Tuesday morning, lack of sleep, stressful week ahead at work, can't quite compute properly this morning brain fart, combined with wanting to make sure I make a positive first impression. I can assure you I am very able to get through the course.

As for the rest of the replies which I have found most helpful along with the well wishers for my course, thank you so much! I have replied to the email, so all there is to do now is wait.

Have a great day everyone :)
