Reading the other thread about what people dislike about where they live, what do you like about where you live, and where is it if you don't mind saying?

Love love love that we are surrounded by common land: woods, hills, heath, all open space. From my front door I can walk for miles and miles and only cross two side streets and one road. The air is fresh. The wildlife is in your face: deer and foxes, parakeets and green woodpeckers, collared doves, frogs, newts, toads, river voles. We get all these just in our small suburban garden. And yet it's only 35 mins by train to Central London.
We live on the edge of SW London.

Star gazing with no light pollution,

Walkon · 03/09/2019 07:19

I like that I can get to the sea in 15mins and also the mountains in 15 mins. Whilst living in a busy city, Dublin

leckford · 03/09/2019 07:19

Peace and quiet, pleasant neighbours, wildlife, nice, friendly people running the pub and shops, loads of places to walk.

I love that I'm in the countryside but a five minute drive from the beach. My nearest amenities and in beautiful fishing villages. As for my village itself, it's a school of around 50 kids who all play together. We all know each other kids and their boundaries, so for example if someone spotted my daughter playing in the woods without me they'd know she probably shouldn't be there and a wee text would be on my way! Grin
My family have lived in this village forever, and me for my whole life, and i find it comforting to be surrounded by family and people who have stories about passed relatives

Close enough to a capital city (work) but smallish town where I grew up, so still know a few people. Family close by. Fairly safe and quiet, so that I've been happy for DS to walk home since he was 10ish. Still with a country feel. Can see the horizon from home.
Southern European weather.

Five minutes on foot from a train station that's 30 minutes from London, a mile's walk from all the city centre amenities you could want, but our house backs onto green fields and we've got tonnes of lovely walks and parks around.

Beaches to the north, south and west alll less than 10 miles away Grin

My favourite thing though is the walk around our local river which is very peaceful.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/09/2019 09:47

5-10 minutes walk to the beach, large village with a few shops and pubs so relatively quiet

City shopping about 20 miles away as well as a few other villages and small towns

Children were able to walk to all their schools...though A level provision isnt as good

Babdoc · 03/09/2019 09:47

Perthshire, so I have fab scenery, mountains, beaches, castles, gardens all within short drive, but only 40 mins from Edinburgh with all the buzz of the Festival and all year round cultural activities.
Did I mention ridiculously low house prices, too...

yellowallpaper · 03/09/2019 10:43

I live in a village in England and it's boring. The only thing I like is it's quiet at night so I sleep undisturbed by car noise.

Megan2018 · 03/09/2019 10:47

Rural Leicestershire/Rutland border.
Stunning countryside, quiet, lots of lovely pubs, walking, beautiful villages etc. We live in a tiny hamlet, no facilities but that’s what we like about it! Property still good value. Easy to get to London/Birmingham though with good rail/road.
Dislike nothing about it. I suppose we are a long way from the sea, but I’m not a fan anyway!

Live in suburban London...love

The great transport
Parks
Lots to do

angemorange · 03/09/2019 10:52

Parks, beach and lovely walks within walking distance.
Large town with decent bars and restaurants (also walking distance).

Good schools and a nice sense of community. Friends and family within 10 mins drive.

20 mins drive to a city for shopping.

EleanorReally · 03/09/2019 10:59

quick to the beach
lots of lovely walks
not telling though

Liverpool here.

I'm an hour door to door from both Liverpool city centre (bus), and Manchester city centre (train), about two hours from Dublin (flying, live reasonably near the airport, check in online, half an hour in the air, can leave my house at 10am and be in bewleys for lunch to meet relatives from home)

Within walking distance from my house there is a busy shopping village, a meadow and a stream, wetlands and an intercity train station. The school is visible from ds's bedroom window.

The people here are brilliant, the neighbours all look out for each other and are generally just lovely warm and friendly. We can and do all have our front doors open in the summer /after school and all the kids in the street play together and dip in out of the houses.

I have proper trees in my garden with squirrels and hedgehogs (grew up with only a concrete yard so this is very new and novel to me).

The cost of living isn't prohibitively expensive and I have numerous free to enter art galleries, museums and country parks on my doorstep so weekends and holidays are enjoyable without having to break the bank.

The hospitals (bar one) are all very good, even if there aren't enough GPs to go around.

Really the only thing I don't like about where I live is the weather, it rains just a bit too much but apart from that where I live is brilliant. I'd recommend it to anyone.

BossAssBitch · 03/09/2019 11:26

I live rurally but work in the City, so I have the best of both worlds.. having said that I am so happy to be able to get out of the chaos of London and go home to wonderful countryside, to be surrounded by wildlife, to hear owls hoot at night.. we regularly have deer in our garden and we look out onto horses grazing in fields, we can go for endless walks with the dogs from our doorstep into some of the most incredible landscape in the country. Our neighbours are decent too..We also have a lovely, very dog friendly pub nearby.. but if you fancy having a Chinese delivered on a Saturday night, forget it Grin

jay55 · 03/09/2019 13:05

I live in east London, I have an incredible view. Transport is excellent, all night tube at the weekend. Night buses in the week. Shops, cinema, o2 all close by and easy trip into west end for more theatres and activities.
Can get any type of food delivered.
Can be as social or hermit like as I want to.

Branleuse · 03/09/2019 16:59

I think theres quite a nice creative arty musical community. Most of the shops and amenities you need. An hour from London, 25 mins from the closest beach. Lots of friends and family
