Who should pay for the carpet cleaner?

My mum is staying with me at the moment to help with childcare over the school holidays. She brought her elderly dog with her who over the weekend had diarrhoea all over the lounge carpet. We tried vanish carpet shampoo but it barely touched it so she arranged to hire a carpet shampooer. She's just asked me how I'm paying for it.

AIBU to think her dog made the mess she should pay? Or, given that I'll benefit from cleaner carpets we should at least split it? I'm very tired and grumpy so not feeling very charitable towards the dog right now.

Update: she's offered to split it. I wish I could tell her I didn't need her to but I'm skint (see my tax credits thread).

I'm a professional carpet cleaner and I can assure you that a rug doctor will not solve this problem! Get a pro in to do a proper job! You will end up spending more money by getting a rug doctor, the machines don't have the power, pressure, heat or correct solutions to clean your carpet. A pro won't even cost that much more, he/she will have it done in no time and leave your carpet clean and fresh and almost dry. Try and find one who is NCCA certified coz there's a lot of gangsters out there cleaning carpets. Good luck.
