To be getting angry about loud building work at this time

It's 6:10 pm, neighbours have a big and noisy building project going on. Kids are now going to bed (yes, it's an early bedtime, but that's their routine) and it's still ongoing. Really noisy, and includes shouting, machinery and an idling large vehicle for concrete pouring.

At what time does this become unnaceptable?

Did the work require planning permission? Councils often specify the hours during which construction work is allowed in the planning conditions.

You can check the conditions online, usually.

Yes, planning has been granted. I have checked the plans and don't recall this being mentioned but will check again.

I'm just wondering at what time my annoyance will be justified.

Posted too soon: I was going to add that it's not really unreasonable imo. It's still early, and most children wouldn't be going to bed at just after 6.

When Virgin Media were digging up our roads, they were working from 7.00 am to nearly 10 at night some nights. It went on for months and it was hell, but there was (apparently) nothing the council could do about it.

6 isn't early, yes it's a pain but you can't expect the world to stop because of your kids bedtime

PutyourtoponTrevor · 02/09/2019 18:23

6 isn't late that should have said

scittlescatter · 02/09/2019 18:24

I'm not expecting the world to stop, just wondering when the racket outside will stop. At this point a rock band would be quieter.

Why not go outside and ask them?

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 18:28

"Hi, just checking what time you're working until tonight?"

Nobody else’s lives are going to revolve around your children’s ‘routine’. It’s barely gone 6pm. I’m still on my commute home and most kids are probably still having their tea. It’s not late or within the hours that most people are even thinking about bedtime.

scittlescatter · 02/09/2019 18:36

Ok, checked on the planning application and they agree with me, no noise should be audible after 6pm.

Owners aren't home and builders don't speak English, which is why I haven't spoken to them.

Everyone getting their knickers in a twist can stop now.

Hmm

Google translate? Although I don't know if it's colloquial enough for "STFU you CFs".
