To get my parents and anniversary cake a week early?

My parents have their 50th wedding anniversary coming up on Tuesday and for the past 6 months they have been debating whether or not they are going to go away for the week of their anniversary or go for an overnight stay or something like that.

I wanted to get them a cake but I was in a difficult situation as I didn't want to get a cake made for the day incase they weren't around for it, so I have ordered the cake to be made for this Friday so it'll be 4 days before their actual anniversary.

It looks like they aren't actually going to go away now for their anniversary so really I could have just got the cake for the day but I couldn't have left it this last minute to order it.

Do you think it's acceptable to give an anniversary cake to them 4 days before their actual anniversary or does it not really matter?

What sort of cake is it? Will it keep for 4 days? We got dds birthday cake made 2 days before her party and it was still fantastic on the day, not sure if it was because it was caked in fondant icing. Someone with more banking knowledge might be able to confirm that.
If not I would give them it early, I'm sure they'll appreciate the gesture whether its early or not.

Contact the cake maker, maybe they will be able to do it a bit later for you.
I'm sure your parents will inderst as and if you explain why its early, it's still a nice gesture.

I'd. Imagine they could change the date. If not explain why it's early.

MyCatHasStaff · 02/09/2019 17:38

Depends on what type of cake. To give you a rough idea, madeira or rich chocolate completely covered with fondant or buttercream will last about 10 days, victoria sponge about 3 days, rich fruit pretty much forever.

I just realised that's not what you asked Grin. Yes 4 days ahead if it will last is fine.

Cocobean30 · 02/09/2019 17:47

Of course it’s fine. Surely they won’t take offence at a cake given a few days early

Thanks everyone for the replies. I can't really change the date as the woman who is baking it is really busy with cakes and sometimes takes a few days to reply to messages because of it.

It is a 'semi naked' buttercream cake so not sure if it'll be ok to give 4 days later? Does anyone know if it will?

I know my parents would be really grateful either way but I just didn't know if it would look silly giving it early or not, they're not having a party or anything anyway so the cake isn't being used for an event if that makes sense it's just a gift for them so it should be ok I guess?

I think a semi naked buttercream cream cake will be at its best within 48 hours of it being made. I’d just give it to the when it is ready. Maybe explain why it is early if you feel you need to. I’m sure they will be very pleased. Hope you are going to stay and enjoy it with them!
