To ask you why my baby is crying?

DD is 6 months old and usually very happy and rarely cries.

Today she has been crying all day! I’ve no idea what is wrong with her. The only way to settle her is to feed her so she has been attached to me all day, much to my toddlers annoyance. She is falling asleep but then waking up ten minutes later and crying again!

No temperature, can’t see any teeth so no idea what has caused the sudden personality change!

Someone tell me why she is crying!

Wind? Or have you started weaning and she's tried something that's given her a dicky tummy?

moreismore · 02/09/2019 15:35

Impending illness/tooth/developmental leap. Keep feeding and cuddling. Drink many cups of tea!

Tralala33 · 02/09/2019 15:35

Teething? The pain often starts long before you can see anything.

cookiechomper · 02/09/2019 15:37

Are her cheeks warm or red? Are her ears hot to the touch? When mine cry like this it's usually teething or wind in the belly. Could she be constipated? I'd give her Calpol. She could be coming down with a
virus.

Myusernameisunique · 02/09/2019 15:38

Sore tummy would be my first thought. I’d give her some calpol and cuddles. I hope she’s better soon!

MustardScreams · 02/09/2019 15:40

Check her toes for a hair wrapped round them.

moleeye · 02/09/2019 15:42

Same here, part growth spurt and part developmental leap. He's feeding like he's starving, I cannot pry him off the boob!!

Good luck...! X

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/09/2019 15:42

Because she fancies it? I’m sure that’s why mine did it on occasions

Tigerwhocamefortea · 02/09/2019 15:50

My DS was a crier and the finest thing would set him off so I had endless days like this with him.

However DD honestly never cries. I bet she hasn’t cried more than 15/20 times in 6 months!

Ive checked for hairs as that happened to DS. No flushed cheeks or ears. Have given calpol and she has just fallen asleep on me feeding again. Toddler is being babysat by the iPad for the afternoon so I’m not winning parent of the year!

Ok this is a really obvious one but not cold is she? After all the warm weather we've been having lately she may be a bit chilly now it's stopped?

Settlersofcatan · 02/09/2019 17:34

I bet you'll see a tooth in a couple of days

AliciaWhiskers · 02/09/2019 17:37

No idea why your baby is crying (sorry!), but just wanted to say you are doing a great job. There's nothing wrong with a toddler having an afternoon on an ipad when you have an unsettled/crying baby. Sometimes we do what we've got to do to get through the day.

Hope LO settles soon Flowers

My friends always used to claim any sort of irritability as "teeth moving around". Sounds like a load of rubbish to me but I guess it made them feel better.

Maybe shes coming down with a bug but not showing full symptoms yet. Sometimes with a cold the first sign is a headache or sore throat which you wouldnt be able to see.

CTRL · 02/09/2019 17:51

Do you think maybe she is bored ?

Sounds ridiculous I know but sometimes they just want something to stimulate them.
Can you give her some tummy time and put out a few toys and maybe the tv on ?

Worth a try 🤷‍♀️

Thecathouse · 02/09/2019 18:03

My 5 month old has had three episodes like this so far - she’s just finished one at the minute.

It normally happens during a developmental leap like previous posters have mentioned - this most recent one she learned to sit by herself and now the crying and constant breastfeeding has calmed down again.

Just stick by it and ride it out for a few days, you might find she reaches a new milestone.

Also lots of entertainment - I find taking her out for a walk to feed the ducks helps, they forget about what’s bothering them when they are busy and it normally means they give your nipples a break for an hour.

Merryoldgoat · 02/09/2019 18:06

My toddler was like this last week for 2/3 days and ended up with a very nasty tummy bug over the weekend.

My bet is getting sick.

Calpol and cuddles.

Tigerwhocamefortea · 02/09/2019 18:24

Thanks everyone. She had a 2 hour sleep on me this afternoon and is still irritable but not screaming the house down anymore!

I was used to the crying with DS but haven’t encountered it yet with DD so it threw me! Luckily she has been a super easy baby so far so toddler DS hasn’t really suffered from lack of attention.

What have the nappies been like, wee as well as poo-wise? Has she been drinking okay? Just ask as my ds had a uti which we worked out after lots of crying and slightly darker tinged wee. We had to go to hospital for iv antibiotics which was rotten, but he was fine after the first dose bless him.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 03/09/2019 09:35

My daughter seemed really distressed like this one day, just not herself and crying and clingy for no reason, took her to the doctor and she had an ear infection. She was really screaming though

Tigerwhocamefortea · 03/09/2019 17:40

She is back to normal today! No idea what yesterday was about but hoping we don’t have a repeat any time soon!
