Irish in the UK - are you applying for settled status?

Not really an AIBU but wasn't sure where to put this...

I have an Irish passport; have lived and worked in the UK for more than 20 years.

I hear that Irish Nationals do not need to apply for settled status.

However, I tried the "get ready for Brexit" site today and the only answers the fields allowed me to give were that I was an EU national and thus I needed to apply for settled status.

What are other people doing? My instinct is to apply for settled status regardless but perhaps the system will chuck me out when it sees I have Irish citizenship.

I will be out of the country (and thus needing to get back in, hopefully hassle-free) in November.

I would apply tbh just to be on the safe side

No not applying. They have said that the Common Travel area will still apply and that Irish nationals do not need to apply. They are not counting us as EU citizens was how I read it.

Obv I know that all might change as I wouldn’t trust them if they think the Irish government are being stubborn on the backstop etc.

If it does all change I’m out. British DH might not agree!

Also not applying. Common Treaty will apply therefore the EU citizen guidelines don't apply to Irish Nationals.

Personally, I am already planning my exit back to the Emerald Isle in the next 18-24 but even if that does change I won't be applying for settled status.
