For school.

It's about 6 or 7 inches long. Curled slightly. It's like a mop. No shape. Hanging over his eyes and ears.

He refused when his dad took him and his siblings.

AIBU to take him today? He will get it cut if I tell him.

It really does look super scruffy.

Or is 14 old enough to decide himself?

It really annoys me that schools get in a state about such a small thing - they are there to educate, not to dictate fashions in hair styles. It is complete nonsense.

He didn't want it done but I said he had to. I don't put my foot down on much but it really did look like a mop.

He did and he says he " likes it better this way."

Result.

We careful about that Mum knows best bit. Don't weaponise his rebellion. It has to come because that's part of growing into an adult - being independent and choosing how you look and live. If I were him I'd wAnt to push against smug Mum rules.

My ds is 11 and has hair like that. I'm letting him decide what he does with it.

One of my sons had long hair at that age and really thought he looked the business. He looks at photos taken then and cringes. Leave him alone - it’ll be worth it for a laugh later.

Well done. My DS 14 is the same. I'm leaving school to deal with it. He's at a boarding school and they will send him to the hairdressers (onsite) for a buzz cut if they don't like it. Tough call!!

Boule Biscuit

Wow. What fantastic armchair psychology.

Bless. Depends on the 14 year old I guess.
My dd3s school has a policy which is as follows
No longer than collar length. No shorter than no. 2. One natural colour. No steps. No stripes. Fringe above the eyebrows. I wonder they don't just put a picture in for you to take to the barber!
For girls it is hair tied up, no dye, no having short hair at the sides and long on top (rules out the Human League).
