insisting we don't home early from hols for a cricket match...

dp and i off on hols tomorrow, very far flung and remote place in the uk - around a five hour drive each way. it's been a rough few months for us with a bereavement and depression, signed off work etc. so we're looking forward to a change of scene, relaxing, long walks and board games.

we're due to checkout of the property next sunday at 11am. dp just found out that his cricket team's last match of the season has been moved from sat to sunday, kicking off at 1.30pm. he wants to set off between 8am and 9am to make it back in time to play. they've almost secured promotion to the league above on points (i don't really understand cricket! but he assured me they're more or less guaranteed to go up whatever the outcome of the match).

aibu in not wanting to leave early? i appreciate its only a few hours, but we'd actually miss out on a whole day of holiday as we've planned to do things on the final day. also, he'd happily have missed the match if it went ahead as originally planned on the saturday.

cricket's really important to him but this holiday is much needed head space for us both after a hard time. i feel a bit disappointed at the prospect of plans changing (even though only a little bit) at this stage.

fully expecting to be told i'm being unreasonable by the way, just looking for others' opinions.

thanks all.

Is he going to be much use if he's been driving for five hours?

Can you travel back separately?

detectivebird · 01/09/2019 18:30

@Tonnerre i'll be driving.

i like the sound of a good meal somewhere afterwards - thanks everyone.

and to those saying it's only a few hours, it's not really - we probably wouldn't have set off back until 4/5pm, so it's basically a full day less of hols. but we'll make the best of it!

@holdontoyourbutts he said he doesn't want to cut he hol short either but he feels a loyalty to his team and it's an exciting time (which i 100% understand). we've agreed to see what happens during the drive tomorrow and as another pp suggested, see whether it's actually five hours or much longer!!!

I would definitely go, last game of the season is important. I love going with my bf to cricket - he brings me a plate of food at tea and I take some cans of g&t and my Kindle and lounge around in the sun on a blanket. Lovely. Mind you I've also huddled under coats and blankets when it's been cold 🤣
