A friend.of my wants to see a change.

She would like the mum and dad to have up to 1 year each. That means both parents off for 1 year at the same time. She wants men to have the same rights as women without women losing anything.

I think she's BU. I see her point but babiez just don't need two parents all day every day for a year.

Isn’t the personal tax rate in Sweden about 50%?!

MindyStClaire · 02/09/2019 13:56

I've no idea Boobiliboobiliboo, but I imagine a high tax rate won't just be because of parental leave policies Wink.

Pretty sure nursery and pre-school are heavily subsidised by the state too. School doesn’t start till age 7.

We took shared leave.

My company only offered statutory pay.

DH worked for local government who offered a generous enhanced package for women but gave him statutory only. I felt this was very unfair.

I took 3 months and he took 6.

Boobiliboobiliboo - Isn’t the personal tax rate in Sweden about 50%?!

Depending on where you live most people pay around 25% (+/- a few %). Until you earn over around £45K (505K SEK) you don't pay any national taxes only Local Authority and County (healthcare) taxes.

i had my DC in Germany. At that time (it is slightly different now, but maybe better in terms of payment). My DC are 18 months apart which made the calculations easy but it worked out like this (also you have to stop work 6 weeks before due date and can only go back 8 weeks after the birth - 12 in case of premature or multiples - this is the legal minimum time you have to take. Obvs if you go over your date it's way more than 14 weeks)

Anyway, i took 3 years (max allowed) for #1
But for #2 i took only 18 months in effect because my DH took the 2nd 18 months of the 3 years for her. So he was home until #1 was 4.5 years old and #2 was 3.

It was brilliant. And not that unusual that people made comments.

@SaltySeeBird a male police officer challenged it in 2017 which is why my DP got this enhanced pay. As all companies and organisations then realised they got be done for sex discrimination so changed their policies.

I am pregnant expecting DC2 any time now.

We are going to be doing Shared Parental leave. I have to say though, we have really had to fight for it from my husband's work. He works for a very large national organisation, yet they have made it near impossible. Some of the responses we have received from his HR have been unbelievable and would suggest discrimination etc. Anyway, we still haven't got it fully sorted...but are about 85% there.

The reason I wanted to comment is, I think there would be a lot more take up of it if it wasn't made so difficult and if it was at least presented as a viable option. There should be more clarity and information given.

On learning that a male colleague was sharing pat leave with his child's mother, another male colleague said incredulously "why does he need pat leave, it's not his vagina smarting from having pushed out the equivalent of a bowling ball"

Missing the point but made me laugh
