To take down a slimming world poster stand outside of my house?

Well it's not my house yet. But something I've put an offer on has a slimming world poster chained to a lamppost right outside my house with a bike lock. In a metal frame like an A.

It makes it look like the person in the house is part of SW.

Aibu to cut it and remove it? If they want an advert they should pay for the bus shelter down the road imo.

If it was me I’d wait til my offer was accepted. Then contact the council and say there’s an a frame advertising billboard obstructing the pavement and could they please advise if that’s against policy and if so remove it?
If they do then its removal will not be associated with you. So if the owner is pissed it won’t be your house that gets a brick through the window! (That may be a slight exaggeration but you never know)
I’d tell nobody what you’ve done ever. It may turn out it’s a neighbour that’s really nice and if she finds out it was you it could spoil things for your integration into the community.
Job done, trap shut, problem solved Smile

likethisone but have you never offered on a property and had things you want to reassure yourself about neighbouring properties or the pavement or parking etc - things which take a little time to find out about and which may in fact mean you are no longer as interested or your amend your offer ? Good lord - lucky you ! Why on earth do we fill in the property info forms which are half about the area and planning application of ‘nearby properties’ etc ? Of course anyone offering on a house is going to make enquiries - some of them demanded by law - about the surrounds !

Wow none of my business?! Are all the searches I'm paying for for the house none of my business either Hmm

You could add your own message to it - eg add a banner across it saying

"You are more than the number on a scale"

OP you asked "AIBU to cut and remove it". Yes YWBVU because it's not your house. You can make enquiries about it, but it's not your business to do anything to remove it until you live in the house. Even then you won't have ownership of the pavement outside, so it's still debatable whether you could get it removed.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 02/09/2019 12:05

Surely the Op meant they would remove it once they had committed to buying the house, not that she was about to take it down whilst still waiting for her offer to be accepted.

If and when you have had your offer accepted I would suggest contacting the council, they have obviously realised no one is living there and cheekily utilised the space. I certainly wouldn't want an A frame outside my property so I don't think you would be unreasonable to remove it if it turned out it had no permission to be there.

InkedGreen · 02/09/2019 13:28

Yes I'm not going to cut while I don't even live there.

But if I complain now and it's still there in 6-8 weeks when I move in I might do.

They almost certainly haven't got permission to block the highway for free ads. Pay for the bus shelter if she wants an ad imo.
