To tell you a cautionary tale about lacking in confidence

Which might also make you smile.
After years of being a sahm I applied for a job as a cosmetics consultant in a shop. I got to the interview stage which was going to consist of a 2+ hour selection process where candidates went on the shop floor and approached customers to do a makeover.
Two days before the interview I had a complete wobble, lost what small amount of bottle I had and cancelled the interview.
For some reason on the day of the interview I spent quite some time in the store wanting to see the other candidates thus convincing myself that they were younger and more talented than me. This would obviously mean I had made the right decision and saved myself public humiliation.

No other candidates seemed to appear however and this week I have seen the position being re-advertised which has made me think if I'd had the balls I might have actually been in with a chance, given that I may have been the only candidate.Grin
Suffice to say I am trying to work on my confidence levels for the futureConfused

Repeat after me: those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. Internalise it and use it as your mantra. I spent years overthinking and assuming people didn’t like me. It wasn’t even true. Give it another shot.

Reapply!

Ellisandra · 31/08/2019 14:53

How far into the future do you want to leave it? Smile
The advert is up again, call them.
Tell them you were disappointed you had to withdraw and you’ve seen the advert and hope they’ll consider you again.
I also think about the worst scenario... you don’t get the job. But you got experience along the way, so it’s not all bad.
Go for it!

Asta19 · 31/08/2019 15:09

Aw OP, did you post about this interview before, asking for advice? I remember reading something like this. Definitely reapply. What’s the worst that can happen? They say no. But they could say yes, so go for it.

Hobbes8 · 31/08/2019 15:11

What excuse did you give them for cancelling? Is it possible to call and say you’d had to pull out of the interview unavoidably and you had assumed they would hire someone else but you’ve seen them readvertise and would love to be reconsidered.

Maybe leave out the bit where you staked out the interview though...

Indeed I did Asta, I should really update my thread and apologise to the lovely posters who gave me advice, but I'm quite embarrassed by my crapness.Blush

It was an online cancelling thing, so I didn't speak to a real person.
I don't even know what I'd say about the reason if I reapplied and got an interview again.

Did you give a reason for cancelling first time round? If not you could easily make something up like an emergency dental appointment or a funeral you had to attend or something and try again.
