Period pain🙈

I know, I know, most people suffer some discomfort but since having DD1 (18months) my periods have been awful.

It’s at the point that the first couple of days of my period I find it hard to function, constantly feel sick and just want to hibernate.

I know ideally I’ll get in to see the GP but just after any quick fixes anyone can recommend, as it’s the weekend and the blighter has arrived, not what I needed home alone with a hurricane toddler the weekend before it’s back to work 🙈

Yes I’m feeling sorry for myself

You poor soul, it can be so awful.

The only thing that really works for me is a lot of ibuprofen and a hot water bottle. Give the toddler a tv day and wait it out on the sofa.

It won't help immediately, but I've found a tens machine takes the edge off - I got one on amazon for about £25.

Alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol two hours apart (assuming you can take both). Hot water bottle.

Anyone you could ask to take toddler even just for an hour or two?

The best regime I’ve found is alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen. Follow the individual dosing instructions but you can take the ibuprofen and then two hours later the paracetamol. It keeps the pain relief topped up better an and they both work in different ways so cover a lot of things that are going on during a period.

Also remedies like a heat pack (those stick on pads are quite good) and generally being a bit lazy and slobby are helpful.

Buscopan can help with the muscle spasms especially if your gut is playing up too. You can buy it over the counter.

Go and see your GP as soon as you can. Some GPs are clued up and others aren’t so do some research and make clear notes of your symptoms not just I have period pain but do you have gut symptoms, are you flooding etc.

Syndol (the one they just brought back which has a muscle relaxant in it) alternated with ibuprofen, and a hot water bottle. A warm bath also helps but not so easy if you're home alone with a toddler. I hope you feel better soon, excruciating period pain is horrendous.

Thanks I managed to sneak a bath whilst toddler napped and have managed to get on top of the cramps to a degree using the codeine and ibuprofen lying around the medicine cupboard 🙈

Has anyone else found their period cramps to be significantly worse post csection? Just wondering if this is a thing or if I just need to give my head a wobble thinking it may be related!

I was woken at 6 this morning with horrible cramps as my period was just starting. I use a mix of pain killers ( paracetamol and Etodolac) and a tens machine. It’s so draining every month feeling like my uterus is my worst enemy.
