To HATE spider season? (No pics)

I'm so fucking terrified of spiders. I always have been. If I see a spider I literally can't go into that room again until someone deals with it for me. I will literally start shaking and hyperventilating if I see one, or if it comes near me.

DP was away for a couple of days last week, we recently moved area so I don't have any friends here yet, there was a fat hairy bastard in my kitchen and I was too scared to go in so I ate takeaway for 2 days with the kitchen door permanently shut.

It makes me legitimately angry when people say 'it won't hurt you' or 'it's more scared of you than you are of it' like no. I barely have a life outside of obsessively avoiding spiders. I dream about spiders, I can't look at pictures of them and it's taken over my life.

I honestly understand how awful it is. A few years ago I read about Indoorex, it is an anti flea spray but works on most insects. I spray my whole house every four or five months. Skirting boards, door frames and widows etc. I have only seen a few spiders since and they are already dead.

I tend to spray just before going out for the day as it initially quite strong. I can't recommend it enough. Changed my life. Can relax in my home now.

@InterestingView it did, it made a thud!

I'm terrified too. I "bug bomb" the house now every autumn and it seems to work

nottoday3000 · 31/08/2019 11:49

We had a big bugger on the ceiling! Went out the room walked back in and there it was!! DP was terrified now he's really good and catching them he made a spider catcher and everything!! I don't want them killed but honestly if I was on my own I think I'd panic and take the mop to it !! Why oh why are they so big tho ?? My 19 year old son is terrified got that from us I'm afraid I think there should be a service that you ring up and someone comes around bit like rentakill xxx

I was in Australia not long ago and my husband was more vigilant about spider checking than me when we were in the outback. I think it was the gin that chilled me out Grin. He was always reminding me to check my shoes. I probably would have had hysterics if I came across one. Saw some massive webs though!

I once had a crawl spider on my face as was innocently watching TV. Just bold as brass the cunt. It was fucking huge. I screamed and threw it across the room and it composed itself before running right back at me. Hence me standing in the sofa screaming like a little girl. Spiders are shits. Although they eat flies and I hate them more.

YANBU. Have you tried anything to help your phobia? I did the arachnophobia course at my local zoo a few years ago and it's been the only thing that helped. I didn't manage the end part where you're allowed to practice catching a common house spider, but I was able to be in the room whilst they were in containers. There's a hypnotherapist who talks you through phobias and why have them, then the keepers chat a bit about spiders, then there was a group hypnotherapy session before going in to the room with the spiders. Honestly I thought it was going to be a load of bollocks but it was so worth it. I'd cry and have a panic attack if I so much as saw a spider before and, although I cant quite manage to catch and release them, I can usually trap them under a glass or bowl if they're not too big for DH to release when he gets home.

We also have a bearded dragon who eats spiders no matter the size, that helps too Grin

Something nobody tells you when you move to the countryside is how much bigger the spiders are.

They spend the summer in the fields eating field mice and taking down birds of prey in their webs, then as soon as they hear the combines firing up, they march down to the villages and move into the thatch.

I’m afraid I hoover them. Blush

PumpkinPie2016 · 31/08/2019 13:21

YANBU - I'm petrified of them as well! It's horrendous during spider season.

It's all very well people saying they won't harm you but it doesn't help matters. I did try getting help for my.phobia but it didn't bloody work!

Aaaaannnddd another giant bastard has run across the carpet tonight

Just for the record, did it hurt you?

Stapelberg · 01/09/2019 22:20

I emptied my son's washing basket today and this massive tarantula-sized monster ran out from under a shirt. I'm sure it was the size of a cat! 🤣 🤣 Nearly fell down the stairs and my 6 year old DS saved me by picking it up IN HIS BARE HANDS while whispering all kind of endearing words to it, looking at me like I'm a monster... I think my child was swapped in hospital 😂 😂
