He doesn't want to go away/go out/have a party, and I feel his 50th warrants something more exciting than the usual present from the kids and Amazon voucher. Jewellery/clothes not an option either. Help!

50 little gifts but all with a meaning. Copy of the first film you went to see together, a photo album to select photos together to put in, a family day out voucher to the place you first visited as a family, things which have some kind of meaning for you both.

An experience? For BF's 50th birthday I booked for him to drive around the Cotswolds in an Aston Martin and stay in a nice pub (exorbitant!) and other friends bought him a day at the Bombay Sapphire distillery, a 'flight' on a zip wire in Wales, a comedy gig and a trip on the real ale steam train. He liked everything !

Having the same problemSad

Having had a bit of a crap year so far, he wanted to do something “different” but not a party etc.

Anyway we have just booked a mini break with the youngest 3 DSs who are all older teens. They are going to do lots of “manly” things like clay pigeon shooting, archery etc together (I’ll be taking lots of photos as I have a dodgy shoulder). Hopefully we will all have a great time and create some lovely memories.

As for an actual present, I have absolutely no ideas so any inspiration would be great too.....

PS - The one thing he didn't get for his birthday that he wanted and has grumbled about since was a set of salt and pepper grinders 😂

exLtEveDallas · 31/08/2019 07:58

I bought DH a greenhouse. We have had more tomatoes, peppers and chillis than I ever thought possible since!

On the day:

Breakfast in bed
First present is the remote control - of which he is in charge all day
Do a present hunt around the houae and garden (small, fun presents)
Do a 'This is Your Life' album and get the kids to present it
Make sure his favourite tipple is well stocked
Order a top notch takeaway or have a bbq - just you two and the kids
Final present of the day: name a star after him and tell him you love him Star

S+P grinders are oddly enough something that was on the wish list here as well Grin

I was coming on to say that I booked the zipwire in north Wales for my husband's 50th. I also did an American style brunch ( pancakes etc ) for the family and evening meal with friends.
Sometimes experiences are a much better option than things .

DH is 50 tomorrow, and is not one to want a fuss

But, Madness is playing on the Downs in Bristol, and DH, is a big fan, so I have a picnic, a bottle of wine and tickets. All we need is the sunshine to stay

Has your husband got a favourite author, celebrity or someone he admires? They have to be alive obviously! The reason I ask is because I have done this a few times...5 to be precise,I wrote to the people and I explained how special my person was to me and the circumstances i e big birthday and could they possibly find the time to send a birthday card to said person.Everyone I contacted was so kind and gladly freed up their time to send a card..one even sent a signed film script which my person found utterly amazing and it made their day just an idea for something extra special to think about.

Flying lesson. I did it for my 80 year old aunt, she loved it!

mummmy2017 · 31/08/2019 08:25

You can buy some of Scotland and become a laird for under £30. .

BonnesVacances · 31/08/2019 08:27

Expensive pen or watch?

eyestightshut · 31/08/2019 08:34

Bean to cup coffee maker - he originally asked for a little Bialletti thing but I figure he needs a new hobby and faffing about with different flavours of beans/grind/blah blah blah will be right up his streetGrin
I've also got him a photo of the kids on his favourite holiday beach and various coffee related bits of kit. Hope he likes it!!!
