To report this guy to the police???

There’s been a dodgy looking guy hanging around our flats for a couple of days.

He has approached me a couple of times and said hello and I’ve been polite and said hi back etc.

Anyway was walking back from the shops today with a bag of shopping and this guy approached me, insisting on carrying my shopping for me following me to the door of the flats insisting I was OK and could manage. He was very, very insistent and I had to warn him I would call the police if he didn’t back away. A male neighbour also came over and told him to back off.

He’s still hanging around the flat block outside.

AIBU to call 101 and see if someone will come speak to him? It’s shook me up a bit like he was trying to get into the flats

Yes - I think you have grounds to be suspicious.

I definitely would, he sounds creepy

Nope, I would ring them and log it, doubt they will do anything though.

You can report it to 101 although I'd be surprised if they sent anyone out or did anything.

Weeks ago I had a taxi driver ignore me and continue to drive past my destination and refuse to let me out of his taxi ( repeatedly put the child locks on the door everytime I tried to get out) this was alongside him commenting on how young I looked repeatedly.

101 took over 7 days to get back to me and said they'd log it but as I wasn't assaulted they would 't do anything.

So I still advise to get it logged but I'd be surprised ( or your lucky in your area) for them to actually do anything

You're definitely doing the right thing. I make frequent contact with the police when in work (I'm a mental health nurse) and some operators are more helpful than others. A couple of tips I've picked up

  • give detailed and thorough information - in this case approx age, height, clothing etc
  • always get the name of the call operator you're speaking to (ask them to spell their name if appropriate)
  • make a note of the incident number and read it back to the operator
  • after giving the operator the relevant information, ask them what action will be taken and just as importantly, in what time frame
  • ask the operator what actions they advise you take should the agreed action be delayed
  • if the operator attempts to minimise the situation be firm with a pre prepared clear and concise response - e.g there are vulnerable people living in these flats (elderly? Children?)

I tend to get a much better response if I follow the above and minimise their wiggle room.

All the best and stay safe
