To want my country bavk

As in the tolerant, peaceful, democratic, welcoming, slightly eccentric, witty, funny UK...

Am totally sick of division and vile crap in the media and on social media. Brexit is a horror show. The UK is so much better than this.

Aibu?

A completely reasonable thing to want. Shame we are so far from this.

LellyMcKelly · 30/08/2019 21:26

Nope, YANBU. This is a shitshow.

mamaraah · 30/08/2019 21:28

The whole brexit fiasco makes me glad that my dcs have treble citizenship/ passports. I have a feeling that we may become a lonely little island surrounded by the 'enemey'.

MerryDeath · 30/08/2019 21:28

its embarrassing. i feel ashamed to be british and tarred by their arrogant, ignorant brush.

CloudyVanilla · 30/08/2019 21:30

It’s really sad all round. Brexit is affecting mental health and relationships as well as all the likely practical downsides still to come.

Stripyseagulls · 30/08/2019 21:30

People keep saying that it’s not a coup d’etat but it feels like one to me. I have never really matched in my life but i am taking to the streets tomorrow

Yanbu at all. I don’t know if we’ll get it back soon though.

sheshootssheimplores · 30/08/2019 21:32

It’s not a country thing it’s a world thing. There’s too many of us. Intolerance comes from overcrowding and it’s only going to get worse.

ginghambox · 30/08/2019 21:33

YABU to start yet another anti brexit thread.

chomalungma · 30/08/2019 21:35

I don't know where we go.

I am marching tomorrow. I think there are going to be many people marching tomorrow who haven't marched before.

I would love to go live somewhere else - but this is my country, I was born here and I used to love living here.

I know why people flee countries. When they feel like the country they were in is no longer a place for them or their family. I also know why people stay, hoping they can make it a better place.

I guess people with other POV think they are making it a better place as well.

ilovesooty · 30/08/2019 21:39

@ginghambox you're not compelled to read or respond.

ilovesooty · 30/08/2019 21:40

And yes @Stripyseagulls I feel as you do.

yellowallpaper · 30/08/2019 21:41

Did you know there was a Brexit section? Maybe post there instead of constantly sneaking Brexit threads into other sections. It's not everyone's obsession

BeardedMum · 30/08/2019 21:42

YANBU

BeardedMum · 30/08/2019 21:43

Brexit should be everyone’s obsession it’s going to have such a huge impact on all our lives!

chomalungma · 30/08/2019 21:43

Did you know there was a Brexit section? Maybe post there instead of constantly sneaking Brexit threads into other sections. It's not everyone's obsession

It's a massive change that is going to affect this country for generations and it's coming to a head now.

So forgive us if people want to post about it, instead of discussing MILs and parking issues.

This is real. This is important. This is now.

ThePallidBustOfPallas · 30/08/2019 21:44

Helpful Tips to Avoid Threads on Subjects That Annoy You

  1. Do not open thread
  1. If you do open thread try to control urge to contribute snippy 'Why have you posted this' comment
  1. Select 'Hide Thread' option
  1. Go find something that DOES interest you
  1. Google for Thread Police vacancies. There must be some somewhere.
Iflyaway · 30/08/2019 21:47

Thank fuck I left UK, where I grew up a a child...

But still emotionally involved and looking from the outside in...

Just horrendous.

Boris's Coup d'état.

ginghambox · 30/08/2019 21:47

So forgive us if people want to post about it, instead of discussing MILs and parking issues.

Fair enough but why keep starting thread after thread with the same posters saying the same thing over and over again?

peachgreen · 30/08/2019 21:48

In all honesty I'm not sure that country ever existed - it's easy to feel like it did if you're white and speak English as a first language but I think BAME UK citizens and residents will have a very different experience. But yes, things are certainly worse now.

Stripyseagulls · 30/08/2019 21:53

@peachgreen yes, you are probably right. I think I just feel like our democracy was always held up as a shining example & now it’s all really gone to shit- it’s really scary & dark at the moment

Lmao I love this response 😂

pinkstripeycat · 30/08/2019 23:22

Most people voted to remain in the 1975 referendum. They are probably the ones who voted leave this time because they have seen what a shit state this country has become while we are still in the EU. Thank good we are leaving!

To want my country bavk
pigsDOfly · 30/08/2019 23:36

I voted to remain in 1975 and I voted to remain in the last referendum.

I know several people who did the same.

Being in the EU was the best thing for the UK. I thought that then and I think it now.

I really don't understand what improvements leavers think are going to be brought about by Brexit.

whattodowith · 30/08/2019 23:44

YANBU at all. I was standing outside a bar waiting for a taxi a few days after the referendum and everyone outside was discussing it. One guy told me his husband had voted leave, he had voted remain and he was contemplating divorcing his husband. I completely understood, I would feel the same if my DH had voted leave.
