Trump flag in a caravan park

Belleende · 30/08/2019 17:48

I am in a caravan park (first timer). Lots of people have flags hoisted from their caravans. One has raised a Trump flag. AIBU to sneak out in the dead of night and replace it with a rainbow flag?

Or warning that they've all eaten loads of beans?

EdWinchester · 30/08/2019 19:08

In the UK? I’d find it quite funny tbh.

pinkmagic1 · 30/08/2019 19:13

Maybe it is a joke?

donquixotedelamancha · 30/08/2019 19:32

How do you know they're not American?

Caravan, not trailer. This would be unremarkable in the US.

soapona · 30/08/2019 19:54

People are entitled to an opinion. Actions like these are driving more people to the right. I noticed it in my son's junior school you could only have a left wing view otherwise its frown upon. More people will start to rebel against this cultural Marxism. In the 1980s I remember Tory voters and they were thought of as idiots in working class areas. Now it's different it's bullying of people who have a different view and worse still people protesting against how the majority voted in Brexit. Or like in USA the protest when Trump first got voted in. He is not Hilter and people forget Hilter was a socialist.

Beesandcheese · 30/08/2019 20:00

You have to look closely at those red caps. Some are piss take ones such as make America gay again.

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2019 20:08

Well I will now :) that would explain the rise in popularity

StoneofDestiny · 30/08/2019 20:25

He is not Hilter and people forget Hilter was a socialist

Oh please - he said this to get popularity when he spoke (lied like Trump).

Hitler was a Fascist - as far right as he could go!

Above all, the Nazis were German white nationalists. What they stood for was the ascendancy of the “Aryan” race and the German nation, by any means necessary. Despite co-opting the name, some of the rhetoric, and even some of the precepts of socialism, Hitler and party did so with utter cynicism, and with vastly different goals. The claim that the Nazis actually were leftists or socialists in any generally accepted sense of those terms flies in the face of historical reality

StoneofDestiny · 30/08/2019 20:28

people forget Hilter was a socialist

On the contrary -
In the months after Hitler took power, SA and Gestapo agents went from door to door looking for Hitler’s enemies. They arrested Socialists, Communists, trade union leaders, and others who had spoken out against the Nazi party; some were murdered. By the summer of 1933, the Nazi party was the only legal political party in Germany
Holocaust Encyclopaedia.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 30/08/2019 20:51

people forget Hilter was a socialist

Just because nazis were called National Socialists doesn't mean they were socialists. Do you even know what socialism is?

Ohflippineck · 30/08/2019 20:52

Completely reasonable. In fact I’d have thought compulsory.

RosesAndRaindrops · 30/08/2019 20:54

Nope. As much as i disagree, they're entitled to their opinion as much as you are

This.
I love the idea of replacing it with a rainbow flag instead, but when it comes down to it, they're entitled to their political beliefs just as much as you are.
I'm not a fan, but Trump was voted in. Let them crack on, they're entitled to their views.
It wouldn't wash the other way round if it was whoever you were supporting, so why should it that way as well?
As a poster said, at least you'll know to just smile and nod and not engage if you really don't want to Smile

Notagreatstart1234 · 30/08/2019 21:16

"Trump really is a statistically unusual level of twunt. It's absolutely fair enough for people to mock and criticise him."

Yeah, pretty much this. Trump is a professional bully, online and offline. Every morning, I wake up to see that he's been spewing vitriolic abuse overnight at various people who've got on the wrong side of him. He reacts to any remotely negative coverage by screaming at the "DISGUSTING FAKE NEWS PRESS". He keeps laying into a dead guy on Twitter. He retweets Katie fucking Hopkins, a legitimate neo-Nazi sympathiser who got sacked for calling for a "final solution".

His supporters at best excuse, at worst applaud his behaviour. Many of them mimic it - try searching the pro-Trump hashtags on Twitter and see how many tweets you find that aren't calling their political opponents "libtards", "mentally ill" or "demon rats". It's not many. Yet the people who idolize and mimic this shouty bully always seem to be the first to wail about their free speech being oppressed if anyone makes fun of Trump supporters or jokes about playing a (mild) practical joke on them.

DoctorTwo · 30/08/2019 21:19

As it's on a bendy pole bend it down as far as you can and wipe your arse on it.

John470322 · 30/08/2019 21:22

It says TRUMP on it. It is on one of those very long bendy poles
Long and bendy is his politics, short and fat is his physique.

Dontsharefood · 30/08/2019 21:38

Is it possible to buy one of those trump baby balloons? If so you should fly one from your own caravan.

NewtonPulsifer · 30/08/2019 21:47

I have a red baseball cap which says “Make American Great Britain Again”. It was a gift from one of my American friends. I do wear it and get people commenting they love it.

NewtonPulsifer · 30/08/2019 21:47

*America dammit

isadoradancing123 · 30/08/2019 21:50

Its none if your business and people are entitled to their opinions

Durgasarrow · 30/08/2019 21:56

Very interesting to see your perspectives as a lefty American and I have to say I agree. The stupidity of raising a Trump flag in a British caravan park speaks for itself. Do those fools think they are claiming themselves some territory? An indifferent eyeroll or two seems like the best revenge to me.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 30/08/2019 21:59

Maybe they just have bad wind and want everyone to know?

LetsTryToLetGoOfAnger · 30/08/2019 22:01

Their opinion is incorrect, deffo try to ruin people's holidays if they do not think in the way you want them to.

Ideally take this approach to the whole world, nobody has the right to think differently to how you want them to, it's not appropriate.

Elodie2019 · 30/08/2019 22:02

Everyone should fly a flag. Preferably on their front lawn. Anything they like.
As others have said, quick and easy way to know who/where to avoid.

DoctorTwo · 30/08/2019 22:05

Maybe he's a fan of Nellie The Elephant

Elodie2019 · 30/08/2019 22:07

Its none if your business and people are entitled to their opinions
The minute people start waving their flag for everyman & his dog to see, it kind of stops being 'private business' and actively invites contradictory opinions from others.
