Should I see GP TMI warning

Name changed as this is tmi.

I have been menstrual bleeding for 20days now and am getting a bit worried.
It's gone from light to heavy and back and forth with clots then days of just light bleed (sorry).
I know I probably should go see a doctor but I've always been a bit irregular - PCOS has made the gaps between periods random all my life but this is new.

Sorry. Just wondering if anyone has had similar? Thoughts on causes.

Oh and I'm 36 so hoping it's not menopause but guessing that's a possibility.

Yes mine has always done this. It’s almost like the clots get ‘stuck’ and then I bleed more once one is ‘released’ I also get cramps when a clot cones out as if my uterus contracts to push it out.

I had this it leaves you feeling so drained. See your GP. I had Mirena Coil fitted & it sorted it.

Hi there,
Yes, I think it is worth seeing a gp about to get things checked. I have exactly the same thing, I have pcos, and after my last child my hormones went wild and I had a lot of estrogen being produced. I was having very long and very heavy periods, sometimes close together and other times it could be months between. I haven't had a period in almost 3 months now. I was advised to lose weight, generally be a bit healthier and try some hormone contraception, which didn't agree with me so now I am back to square one!
I feel for you. It's physically and emotionally draining to be constantly on a heavy period.

Thanks for replies.
I hate taking the pill as it piled the lbs on. I have actually just list 3 1/2 stone so was hoping the nasty irregular periods would settle but clearly not.
Hate the idea of the coil though no real justification for that other than an odd fear of having a 'foreign body ' inside me.

You really do need to see your GP about this. You could be very anaemic apart from anything else, OP.

Hope you get it sorted out.

kateandme · 30/08/2019 00:22

there might not be anything wrong.but it could be something that talking it through helps.gives you some comfort, advice or knowledge on whats happening.and discuss any options.
you could also become drained and or anemic because of it though so this would deff need attention and medication as that can get dangrous.so i would anyway.

I had this OP and I kept getting triage phone-backs from the same practice nurse offering me the pill. She didn’t seem interested that I’d had a period that had lasted for six weeks or in my saying I didn’t want the pill. Eventually spoke to a different nurse, got blood tests which showed I was anaemic (no surprise there) and had my coil taken out (turned out that it had become embedded which was what was causing my issues). Worth getting your iron levels checked, but you may have to fight to get your issue taken seriously 😐

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/08/2019 04:55

Gynaecological issues are not taken seriously in this country. Ideally you would see one so they can scan you and decide on the most effective treatment. Anything else is trial and error. Including the coil.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/08/2019 04:56

Oops ideally you would see a gynaecologist.
