To want to pick up something 1 mile away on ebay and not pay the postage for seller to drop it off?

I emailed a seller last night who had an item on ebay that I want for DP, I always search for things close to home by the mileage search facility, to save the postage and also save the seller packing up and going to po. Sellers have always been happy for me to pick up and I always do it at a time to suit them.
The reply just came, no I can't pick up as the seller does irregular shifts, fair enough I thought, I'll pay the postage as its not a heavy item so its not that much if I win the item, but then said that she will drop the item off if I win the bid - but still wants the postage money. We are less than a mile from this person! And where we live, she is probably passing most days anyway as there is only one road in and out of this town.
If I have sold to someone local and drop off the item on my way somewhere I never ask for the postage!
So in my usual style of cutting off my nose to spite my face, I am not going to bid, I'd rather pay postage to someone who lives a distance away and actually has to post it!!

i asked a question once on ebay about if i could pick it up as she lived 5 mins away she said yes fine, then upon winning i said when can i collect and she then said no collection you have to pay. i said ok when you take it to PO to post let me know which one and i'll collect it from there. she left me bad feedback and proceeded to sell it to someone else....cheeky cow!!!!! (oh it would have cost £4 thats inc bit extra weight and packaging to post she was charging £10)

I recently contacted someone on ebay who lives in same town as me (fairly small town) asking if I could collect item if won, he said no cos he started bidding at 1p knowing the item would not sell for much so he makes up the money on the postage which was £5 for a playstation 2 game . I replied telling him this was against ebay rules.

But another time I asked another seller and he said ok then I won the item for 1p, felt very embarassed so I sent dh to pick it up!!

i won a child bike for my dd last year for 1p!! and she offered to meet me half way without any extra money..! i felt so bad about it ,so i slipped her a fiver to say thanks...

Depends how much the postage is. If its only £1.50 then surely it's worth paying it for her to drop it off. If she wants say a fiver then YANBU

I dont understand why people mess about with postage like this

Dh ahs an Ebay shop (DHJ stuff lights etc), his postage rating isn low, despite all others being very high.

To calculate postage, Dh takes the price of postinga and adds on the price of the jiffy bag- and charges that exactly!

So how come he gets shite, and otehrs get away with all this?

Rather than cut your nose off to spite your face, tell the seller that you work irregular shifts too and you'd rather they posted the item, that way they have all the hassle of packing it up and going to the post office plus the cost of p&p. They gain nothing due to their own stupidity and you are not affected.

It might make them think again about refusing collection offers in future.

I won a pair of brand new condition maternity jeans for £1 and the seller agreed I could collect them (lived 5 mins away). Her dp answered the door as the seller herself was out and I gave him £2 as I felt a bit guilty at getting such a bargain. Four months later after wearing them into the ground, I felt really guilty that I didn't pay more but ebay is ebay, don't start the price low if you can't take the disappointment of a low winning bid.

Hmm Howdydoody, the postage is actually only £1.50, but the mileage would be 10p. If that. So my nose is cut off and my face spited, I am not giving someone an extra £1.40 on top of an item for nothing at all!

yes I know its only £1.40, but its the principle of the thing.

I LIVE CLOSER TO HER THAN THE BLOODY POST OFFICE where she will have to go if someone further away wants it!
I did think of telling her to post it anyway, but it would fit through my letter box so she'll probably take the postage money anyway and deliver it - on her way to the post office with her other sales, pah.
