Hi folks,

It's that time of year again, when Paul, Prue, Sandi and Noel join a troop of eager bakers in the Great British Bake Off tent... and we cancel Tuesday night plans for the foreseeable future to watch them, cuppa and several slices of cake in hand.

With two bakers already off home (farewell, Dan and Jamie), GBBO 2019 is well and truly underway, and not without a few customary disasters, either (anyone else feel strangely comforted when Jamie forgot to add the eggs to his showstopper in week 1? Or relieved that you're not the only one who could make a fig roll turn out like a sausage roll? No? Just us then).

Update 1: Week three in the GBBO 2019 tent saw the 11 remaining bakers tackle bread - never an easy feat. Paul was impressed, though, giving out the very first Hollywood Handshake of the series (there’d been four dished out by this episode last year, apparently) to Michael for his tear-and-share Keralan Star Bread. It was farewell to Amelia - not before giving Prue a coughing fit with her spicy loaf - leaving 10 bakers remaining for next week’s Dairy Week.

With just three bakers down, there's still all to play/bake for, and we'd love to know who you think will win GBBO 2019. Let us know by voting in the poll below.

Update 2: Week four in the GBBO 2019 tent was Dairy Week, a new addition to the Bake Off calendar. Some of the bakers thrived, some struggled, and Paul Hollywood almost stormed off set after some characteristic honesty, announcing “They’re awful, they’re really bad”. Steph was awarded Star Baker, and the group said goodbye to Phil, leaving nine bakers remaining for next Tuesday’s Roaring Twenties Week.

There's still all to play/bake for, and we'd love to know who you think will win GBBO 2019. Let us know by voting in the poll below.

I like Alice, she seems very nice and modest and yes she’s very pretty ...and I am not at all envious. Grin. In any case I think she’ll win,

I think Jamie’s has a phenomenal future as a baker but I think he’s very young and inexperienced still. I suspect he was chosen to fit in with the mixture they wanted this year. I would be there would be some who lost out who are spitting nails.

SalemTheTeenageWitch · 04/09/2019 18:32

@adaline She isn’t trying too hard at all, it is who she is. She has had success with her book “An Introduction to Witchery” and her online shop ‘Candy Candy’ and is very much adored in the community she represents!

highheelsandbobblehats · 04/09/2019 20:33

I've got Henry as my early favourite. Husband is backing Alice. Jamie was the obvious one to go this week, poor lad. I was disappointed to see Dan go so early. I would have liked to have seen more of what he had to offer. I'm also keeping an eye on David. I think he'll go far and may even pip Henry. Definitely one to watch.

Not sure about Helena. It's almost like she's this year's Kim-Joy with her kookiness, but I'm already bored of her Halloween themed bakes.

highheelsandbobblehats · 04/09/2019 20:34

Poor Michael. Not one vote.

adaline · 04/09/2019 21:44

@SalemTheTeenageWitch that's just how she comes across to me.

I'm sure she's a good cook but it just comes over as being quite "look at me and how different I am". 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheMadGardener · 05/09/2019 01:27

DDs and I have picked our final 5 as David, Michelle, Alice, Rosie and Priya.

TheMadGardener · 05/09/2019 01:28

But we all love Henry and would prefer him to win!

blighter · 05/09/2019 10:48

I think it will be either vet lady or Alice although i don't really want either as I find both annoying. Team henry here but thats because dd went to school with him plus hes a lovely unassuming chap. Come on henry, pull it out of the bag 😀

swissmummy12345 · 05/09/2019 12:42

Thank god Jamie went. He had a stupid Beavis and Butt-head laugh after every sentence he uttered.

Far too many contestants in their 20s this series, part of the appeal of the show was the comradery between the generations. I want Michelle as she seems the most 'normal' and down to earth. The others have far to many 'hobbies', if Alice mentions New Zealand one more time I will put my foot through the TV!

IsThisNameTaken · 05/09/2019 12:48

DS and I like Henry and Alice. Sort of sad to see Jamie go (DD is definitely sad not to be seeing him on the screen every week!) but there was no contest who should go.

MirrorrorriM · 05/09/2019 12:52

I like Michael. It cracks me up that he's always covered in blue plasters after cutting / burning himself.

Not a fan of Helena. Her green finger biscuits were awful. My kids could have done better.

BlooperReel · 05/09/2019 14:07

I voted Alice but find Michael very endearing, my youngest DD loves him, keeps asking if he has cu himself again and trying to count howmany plasters he has.

I am not usre about Helena, he spider was amazing but I find her a bit predictable with all th gothic/halloween theming.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 05/09/2019 20:33

Not reading this thread yet as am about to watch the first episode! 😆😆😆 just saving my place! 🍰🧁🍰🧁🍰🧁🍰🧁🍰🧁🍰🧁🍰🧁🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🍮🍮🍮🍮🍮

NewNameJust4Today · 05/09/2019 22:13

Alice, I think.

HamiltonBentley · 06/09/2019 08:26

Michelle or perhaps Alice

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/09/2019 10:47

Still early days , loved the chicken and the sheep show stoppers. Definitely have a soft spot for Henry though. Baking in a shirt and tie is just totally awesome.

spiderlight · 06/09/2019 12:20

I'm backing Michelle because she's Welsh, and she seems lovely and down-to-earth. I like the vet as well, whatever her name is. They are all so very young though.

NumbersStation · 07/09/2019 17:42

Rosie for me.

Or Michelle.

I'm not warming to Alice. I feel like just by saying that I'm going straight to hell. or worse, I'll be made to be PH's fluffer...

Itsfineactually · 08/09/2019 17:21

I voted Henry because it's the only name I know so far!!

I like the scottish guy but he's obviously very clumsy poor thing!

Not a fan of the vet lady, she talks too fast and seems too twee.

I like the welsh lady but I wish she'd stop making everything she bakes related to wales, lots of welsh people do this! (I'm welsh btw Smile

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 09/09/2019 14:32

Just watching episode 2.
I'm finding Jamie VERY annoying! Why doesn't he roll his sleeves up?!?!?!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 09/09/2019 14:33

Ooh I like Alice!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 09/09/2019 15:05

Yes! Swissmummy totally agree re: Jamie's beavis & butthead laugh!!! 😤🤯😱

ageingdisgracefully · 10/09/2019 15:10

I can't stand Alice. Hope she goes soon as she's getting on my t..ts so much.

Didn't like Jamie much either - not feeling the luuuurve..

Favourite so far is vet woman and lorry driver. Quite liked organ-paying glasses man, but only because he plays the organ. Liking the "organ" innuendoes (childish).

Itsfineactually · 10/09/2019 17:58

Do you guys watch ‘An extra slice’? Is it worth tuning in to?

ageingdisgracefully · 10/09/2019 19:20

I do! A bit long, but enjoyable. The home bakes are hilariousCake.

Tom Allen is ascerbic and naughty. Really good at taking the piss.
