Or do herbal/fruit teas taste of nothing?

I really want to like herbal and fruit teas. They always smell lovely, and even when brewed in the hot water ot smells lovely. But I've yet to find one that actually tastes of anything. Even leaving the teabags in, they all just taste of hot water.

AIBU or is there some knack to it?

Licqorice tea is amazing. It's all I drink now. Or as another PP said some nice cordial, hot...mmm.

I drink herbal & fruit teas. Some hot, & some only work cold. I like chamomile, spearmint, peppermint, limeflower, & lemon verbena. Licorice is also lovely but it gives me migraine so I avoid it. For cold, I use almost any fruit teas (I make them hot, & allow to cool, or make them extra strong & then pour over ice). I like the twinings St Clements, or strawberry & raspberry, best of all. I do agree that the fruit teas have absolutely no flavour at all when they're hot though.

I do like green tea with jasmine or other florals, but I'm not especially keen on it, on its own.
