Can I get a cleaner if...

... I have a dog?

Never had a cleaner before but now marking enough that we can afford to have one. Great as we both hate cleaning. We have a dog and two cats, all very friendly. I have tried to google and looked at FAQ on local cleaners' websites but this question doesn't seem to come up at all!

Are you a pet owner with a cleaner? Do you have to pay more? Does he/she require you to be in the house when they clean?

Preference would be to have house cleaned while we are at work, so the cleaner would need to be alone with the pets.

I have 2 dogs and a cleaner. It's not an issue. She lets them in and out as needed.

MommaJP · 28/08/2019 14:20

My friend has 2 dogs a big Akita & a Chihuahua, her cleaner comes when she is at work and has no issues, I would find a local cleaner and contact them and ask I am guessing everyone is different due to allergies & like to dogs etc.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The are the main reason I have a cleaner in the first place!
I was there where the cleaner came the first time, to introduce her to dogs and let them know it's a friend. She does not charge extra.

Cleaner here! Wouldn't flinch at the prospect of 1 ddog tbh!!
Someone to chat to whilst cleaning!! Have been caught mid convo with a Labradoodle many times!!

FuriousVexation · 28/08/2019 14:48

I only have a cat but have never had a problem with a cleaner (although I akways ask about allergies)

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/08/2019 14:51

I had four cats now three and have had the same cleaner for three years, she looks after them if I'm away too.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/08/2019 14:53

Oh and I pay less cos mates rates, but we've become friends since she's been cleaning for me, she's popping over tomorrow with a gift for 18yr old Dd's birthdayGrin

Circe32 · 28/08/2019 14:56

As long as you let them know when arranging the service, it shouldn't be a problem.
Unless they are allergic...

HauntedPinecone · 28/08/2019 14:58

Yeah it's fine, one of my jobs is cleaning and as long as people ask me (warn me!) then it's no issue.

BillywilliamV · 28/08/2019 15:00

We have 4 cats and a cleaner, never been an issue. Make sure you’re not expecting the cleaner to look after the dog though.

Thanks so much for the quick replies!

Does anyone have a roomba? Considering getting one as I feel like I spend half my life hoovering pet hair!

rookiemere · 28/08/2019 15:04

I have a roomba and it's great for pet hairs but rookiedog isn't keen on it so I need to remember to put it on when we're out for a walk

DoomsdayCult · 28/08/2019 15:09

I have a rescue dog and I do actually stay in the house with my cleaner their first 4-5 visits so my dog can get used to them? Just something to consider if you have a dog that is a bit wary of strangers.

SleightOfMind · 28/08/2019 16:05

I have one dog who is terribly afraid of strangers and can easily become aggressive.
We could muzzle and crate her for our cleaner but that would make her issues worse.
Luckily, DH and I can both work from home often and DS1 (18) knows how to handle the dog too.
Cleaner is great with her (no eye contact etc) even though she really wants to give the dog a cuddle Grin

Angeldust747 · 28/08/2019 16:11

My cleaner had quite a few clients with pets and regularly dog sat/ popped in to feed the cats whilst we/others were on holiday, came in quite handy!

Purpleartichoke · 28/08/2019 16:26

We put the cats in the storage room (where the litter trays are located) when the cleaner is working. We don’t want her to have to worry about the indoor cats getting out.

Hobbesmanc · 28/08/2019 16:29

Our old cleaner used to be fab and empty litter trays and let the cats in and out. Her replacement doesn't do that (and we wouldn't expect it) but she hasnt had any prob;em around them
