To ask for ways to reduce plastic in our household

I've seen so many posts recently about reducing the amount of plastic we use on daily basis to help the environment.

I absolutely love the idea and am now trying to find ways to switch my habits and products. First thing I started with was I signed up with my local milk man. What else can I do?

Really think about the packaging of the products you buy - we’ve had milk delivered in glass bottles for years (farming countryside), but we’ve started buy mayo and ketchup in glass bottles, and oats in cardboard boxes rather than plastic bags. I’ve tried (unsuccessfully) a few times to make my own yoghurt. I’ll keep trying on that one, I know I can be fine, because DM used to do it. Loose tea instead of bags.. I’ve started using face creams from Holland&Barratt that come in glass jars with aluminium lids. Cat food runs, rather than plastic single serve pouches.

I was pleasantly surprised to see cans of water and sandwhiches in paper bags in the meal deal lunch fridge in Morrisons today.,

I try to buy food packaged in glass or cardboard boxes rather than plastic. E.g. porridge oats in a box. I make some of my own cosmetics (deodorant, facial cleanser) and store them in glass jars. I bought a big glass bottle of fancy handwash from TK Maxx and will take it to the local refill shop for topups. The cat has tinned cat food. I have fabric bags for life all over the house, in every pocket! I buy most of my clothes and possessions from charity shops. I do make my own yoghurt but it's Easi-Yo which comes in a plasticky pouch so I'm not sure what to do about that (although it's still less plastic waste than if I was buying lots of yoghurt pots). What I find most wasteful in my house is the DCs eating packets of crisps and buying plastic bottles of fizzy pop. Most of my rubbish is crisp packet-type stuff. There is a Terracycle collection point where the packets could be collected but it's quite a distance away so maybe not an option (would have to drive to get there).

Butter (in foil paper wrappers) rather than Marge.

Have only used white vinegar, baking soda & lemon for cleaning - much better!

Also recommend georganics for tooth care.
