To not understand why posters feel they have to declare they’re a long term user of mumsnet?

I genuinely can’t understand why posters declare this at the beginning of their threads. I can understand if it’s incase people might think they’re a troll but sometimes this is said on the most boring posts! I don’t care if people know about naice ham and penis beaker! Is it just so people know you’re part of the ‘in crowd’? Genuinely puzzled!

OP posts:

Usually done if someone's name changed for something personal or easily identified, to prevent the thread filling with troll hunting. Troll hunting is the norm (but banned) when first time posters post about anything interesting/unusual/controversial.

ShirleyPhallus · 27/08/2019 20:47

It’s so that they don’t get the “interesting first post OP Hmm” posts

SparklyMagpie · 27/08/2019 20:49

What I don't get is that the more its said at the beginning of a name change, trolls know exactly what to put, y'know?

So I always think it's pointless

SparklyMagpie · 27/08/2019 20:49

I couldn't give a shit either way though 😂

PinkyPrincessy · 27/08/2019 20:49

It’s because trolls tend to be newer accounts - it’s something mumsnet HQ look at when deciding if something is a troll post

LuluBellaBlue · 27/08/2019 20:50

Totally agree! Completely pointless Grin

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 27/08/2019 20:50

Do people actually say it on the boring threads?

SparklyMagpie · 27/08/2019 20:51

@LuluBellaBlue I know right 😂

We should just give trolls and whatnot a book on what to say

Kanga83 · 27/08/2019 20:53

I've wondered this too, and I wouldn't have a clue how to tell if someone's been here ages or a first post from any user name. I read most of the threads, don't post on that many but couldn't recognise one name from the next.

IsobelRae23 · 27/08/2019 21:01

People do an advanced search and look at the posters history.

IsobelRae23 · 27/08/2019 21:03

It can be worth it when people say something like I’m skint, have no money, my husband left me and I have 5 kids. Then you search and two days ago they were talking about their trip to Asia with their husband that earns millions and their one child in private school.

SansaSnark · 27/08/2019 21:06

You can reverse search a user name- posters will do it when they suspect the OP of being a troll or not quite genuine. If there's a long posting history on sensible topics that's consistent with the OP, most people will assume they're genuine. If nothing comes up and it's weird first post, then it's more likely they are a troll.

I do agree that if you hang around mumsnet long enough, you can figure out the right things to say, even if you are a troll.

If you're unsure I reckon the best thing to do is always to report as MNHQ can always check things out and if the poster is genuine then no harm is done.

RosesAndRaindrops · 27/08/2019 21:15

This.
If you''re NCing because outing or sensitive or whatever, you'll always get some going "Interesting first post, OP" or the totes hilaire "Welcome to MN with humphy face like this Hmm Grin
So say you're a long term MNer who likes naice ham and punching lemon drizzle cakes and Korean little old ladies in your garden.
That type of thang lol

MrsDilligaf · 28/08/2019 19:08

I've been here years, I read more than I post, as the vast majority of members do, but these MN phrases (naice ham, penis beaker etc) can all be found in classics!

I don't understand it either OP, but then again, I've never seen the appeal of being in the cool gang!
