Not AIBU but ATBU!

Looking at family holidays. Couple plus 3 year old. Nearly everywhere just has sofa bed in lounge for child. They are nearly always hideously uncomfortable. Why do we pay good money for children to sleep on uncomfortable put you ups!!!

Well 'everywhere' doesn't.
You make a choice of booking a two bedroomed apartment / villa / cottage / caravan or you save money and "camp out" for a week on a sofabed / camp bed / airbed type thing and make it all part of the adventure.

@BackforGood I don't want to save money, I just want a nice holiday with everyone comfortable. I wish companies were able to search by rooms with 2 bedroom apartments - if you select 2 bedrooms it just gives you completely separated rooms which is no good.

It takes so ping to scope out hotels with good options. It's nice for adults to have time together once the kids have gone to bed as well. A sofa bed in the living room doesn't offer that.

Airbnb is your answer. We just had 2 weeks in Alicante, early August. Huge, well equipped apartment with two bedrooms (double and twin with extra pull out). Huge pool and right next to beach. £650.

I agree that it is a pain with some travel companies that you can't search for hotels by the number of rooms. You have to trawl through instead. We stayed in a one bed apartment in a hotel that had twin beds in the bedroom and a king size in the living room - that was good although we weren't hugely impressed with the hotel overall.

You need an aparthotel type set up. Some still serve food if you don't want to self cater, or there are lots of bungalow complexes in Lanzarote, which often have 2 bedrooms. We stayed in a lovely one in Playa Blanca.

I am a travel agent and we have the ability to search for 2 bedroom apartments.

It is not that hard to find proper 2 beds but you will pay underoccupancy as they may technically sleep up to 6. It does irk me that even a 3rd adult is often allocated a sofa bed in a triple room.

Booking.com and hotels.com offer family rooms with double bed & single bed. I've stayed in these types of room

Ginger1982 · 28/08/2019 09:05

I've never had a problem searching on TUI or other apps and filtering in that I want a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in a 4 star AI for example. I take the view I don't really want to go on holiday to a lesser standard than I have at home so I want DS to have his own room if possible. Yes, that does push the price up so if we can't afford it then we just wouldn't go.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 28/08/2019 09:06

The place I recently stayed had a pull out bed from under the sofa. It had a proper mattress and my 11 year old dd found it very comfy.

Yabadee · 28/08/2019 09:09

We just stayed in a hotel with our 4 year old and she had her own bed in same room as us. Just booked for next year somewhere else and it has a sofa bed but she won’t mind

We were at club mac in Mallorca this year, highly recommended if all inclusive water holidays are your thing, we loved it

ArtisanPopcorn · 28/08/2019 09:14

We did an AI this year which had a double bed and a single bed. But DD sleeping on a pull out bee for just a few days doesn't bother me (or her).

babasaclover · 28/08/2019 09:33

@donquixotedelamancha I agree. Only just got into air b&b. Had such impressive results. Just want something in a hotel complex next time as she'll be old enough to socialise and play with other kids. Hard to find.
