AIBU - pavement parking

I’m a wheelchair user. Yesterday I was travelling along the pavement in my chair and there were 2 cars parked half on the pavement half on the road. As I passed the 2nd, which was further onto the pavement than the 1st my wheel clipped the low wall in the hedge which made the chair bounced and the car ended up getting scratched. I did the right thing, knocked on the door and gave them my details. But I’ve now had a quote back for the repair and it’s £360 which I just don’t have. AIBU to feel aggrieved at having to pay out when the car was causing an obstruction in the first place?!

i would be wheeling down that road each day.... and if his car is there i would fucken scrape the shit out of it each day.... one day he might make the connection that if he parks on a footpath his car will be scratched when a wheelchair or pram is using the limited space that he has left on the FOOTPATH, he might choose to change his behavior... and if he says anything i would be informing him you only notified him of the damage so he would know if your chair had damage that you would be coming back for his check book.... DO NOT PAY or he will never learn the lesson he so badly needs to be taught

Husband wants to know what I want for my birthday. I usually say "nothing" and he gives me a cheque for £30. I would like a present this time. What's the best present you've asked for and got? £30 gives you his ball park thinking ( though he could pay more without losing the house ) Grin

Sorry. That came up I the wrong place x

@ellendegeneres - please send those photos to your local council's traffic wardens, or stop one and tip them off. They'd probably be happy to issue a ticket every time.

My word.

There is more than one post on here saying “they could claim on their insurance ... but then their insurance premiums would go up”.

Shock

Seriously? This country drives me mad sometimes.

People who are essentially saying the CF neighbour’s monthly insurance premiums are more important than the OP’s right to travel on a pavement.

i don’t often say this so unequivocally but this is completely horrendous. Insurance is there to be claimed on, unless someone recognised they are at fault, and decides to proactively offer a sum to the other party to protect both their premiums.

OP’s husband clearly is also obsessed with this nonsense because he is potentially proactively offering, despite OP being in the right here.

For goodness sake, let them claim, let them have the hassle of contacting their insurer. Perhaps they’ll learn where to park afterwards.

Do you have contents insurance? Usually you will have personal liability insurance. Put it in their hands. They will write and tell them there was no negligence.
And your neighbour should be ashamed.

@GinDaddy...You may have misunderstood. I said this, but I meant it as fact and that is probably why they would rather ask the OP for money....Not that they shouldn't. Not at all.

Message them saying that they appear to have misunderstood. You left your details for them to pass onto their insurer so you can claim for damage to your wheelchair causes by their poor parking.

Sounds good to me.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 29/08/2019 05:48

I think I'd let them take me to the small claims court if they wanted me to pay.

pp12 · 29/08/2019 05:55

Don’t pay!

We touched someone in a car park on day by accident. Left out details they rang later to sort it out with using insurance companies they got a “quote” of around £350/400. We said let the insurance company deal with it handed them the details. They where not happy but we never had a claim. We found out the quote was not real as we knew the firm they asked for a quote.
