Moving and no space for our dryer!

We are in the middle of moving from a council flat to a council house atm. We were offered the place and said yes because houses are scarce in the area and we would be waiting God knows how long for another offer and even then the area may not be as good.

Anyway, we got the keys today and the kitchen has no space for a dryer. Even taking a cupboard out we would still be about 15cm too small to fit it.
DH is throwing a fit at me suggesting we put it in the corner of the reception area. I literally cannot think of anywhere else to put it. Cupboard under the stairs has no socket and would probably be a hazard because the leccy box is there.

AIBU at suggesting the reception area? I know it's not ideal but we can't live without it, believe me, we tried for two weeks before and it was a nightmare.

Bedroom? We moved to a house that was smaller than the flat we had previously lived in, the kitchen was big enough for one of us at a time and the dryer had to go in the dining room. It was fine. Bedroom is better if you have the room because you can put clothes away straight from the dryer then instead if carting them round the house.

Be mindful of ventilation wherever you place it.

Whatisthisfuckery · 27/08/2019 17:10

I had this last month. Moved from a tiny flat where drier was in the hall, to even tinier flat where the kitchen is in the corner of the living room, and washing machine is in what I imagine used to be the airing cupboard. I’ve had to stack the drier on the washer and use an extension cord to plug them in in my room. I have no garden to hang out washing, despite the letting agent showing me a lovely garden on viewing and telling me it would be mine.

YABU. Just don't have 1...
Family of 5, use cloth nappies full-time, no tumble drier and we manage fine.
Of course you can manage without, get a grip...

Iamnotagoddess · 27/08/2019 17:26

We have ours in the garage - we never put the car in there 😂

BelindasGleeTeam · 27/08/2019 17:29

Heated airer.
Family of four, sporty too

Never had a dryer, manage fine 🤷

@ellesworth
Dryers generally vent into a room or down a pipe and out of the building. From the way you have answered questions I assume your dryer is one of these.
Either way it does not matter, as @FantasticPhyllis says, a washer dryer is possibly the simplest option. They are exactly the same size as a washing machine (built in or freestanding) and therefore the replacement of a washer with a washer dryer is absolutely viable
We have over decades had various various machines of various ages and all of them condense the water when drying (as opposed to venting hot damp air into the room) it pumps the extracted waste water down the outlet pipe.
Good luck with your choice.

I’d cut the worktop, you can buy edging strip & stack them. Failing that I’d put it on top of the worktop.

Do you have any internal cupboards big enough to take it?.

cookiemonster5 · 27/08/2019 17:38

I had similar. My dryer is in the cupboard under the stairs with the leccy box. I just installed the plugs at the other side of the cupboard. As it's a condenser it's fine.

Milsplus3 · 27/08/2019 17:52

Mine is in my bedroom cupboard as we have a tiny kitchen (washing machine is in understair cupboard) are you able to fit a conservatory or a garage style shed area to put it in?

DadCanIHaveAZedgie · 27/08/2019 18:00

We moved to a house with no space for a dryer. I got a washer/dryer but it's not my favourite and I use the dryer as little as possible because nothing smells nice coming out if it.

Get a heated airer? Or just a regular one? They are cumbersome but you can put them away. I was similar thinking "I can't do without a dryer!" But you get on with it and get used to it and it's ok.

Good luck with the move!

Bathroom!

AgentJohnson · 27/08/2019 18:11

If you have a garden, there really is no immediate need for it and you’d save yourself a few quid by letting it be idle for a month.

Buy a stacking kit and remove the work surface and or wall unit above the washing machine Then install a cheap tall kitchen unit to house the monstrosity.

The attachment people have to their driers is really weird, especially in the summer.

RezCowgirl · 27/08/2019 18:22

Get rid of it. There's now a garden to use and you'ok save a few quid on the electric bill
