I have a 5 year old ds with autism who suffer pain ect (which if anyones seen my other post will see).
Last night he woke up and came down staors really upset said he couldn't sleep and that his leg really hurt i calmed him down and he saod mummy why does my hody twist and twitch like that. Now am not sure what he means by that as i haven't seem the twisting and twitching hes on about. He couldn't explain more than that either. The only other thing was he was very sweaty but it was hot here last night but had no temperature. Now could it he a seziure? Wouldn't we notice a seziure? And is i possible he would notice as my dad said he wouldn't know if it was.
I know i can take him to the gp and he has a pediatrician but i struggle to get people to take me seriously as hes very cryptic in how he says things and then struggles to elaborate any further.

I am epileptic and there are so many differeng seizures, not all of them tonic clonic.

Harleyisme · 27/08/2019 13:15

So we could be missing something? Its so difficult when he comes out with such random things.

Could it be cramp?

Confusedbeetle · 27/08/2019 13:57

I think you need to ask a doctor

dollydaydream114 · 27/08/2019 14:39

Sounds like cramp to me. Pain in his leg combined with 'twisting' and 'twitching' sounds very cramp-like and loss of salt through sweating can trigger cramp sometimes.

Another possibility is that he is someone who jerks/twitches/kicks for a moment suddenly as he's about to fall asleep. This happens to me almost every night and has done since I was quite young. It's very odd - just as you are drifting off you suddenly sort of jump involuntarily and it can be surprisingly violent! It's quite annoying for anyone you share a bed with, as you can imagine.

I think it's unlikely that he would actually be conscious of any movement if he was having a seizure as seizures would usually involve a loss of consciousness ... I'm sure there are exceptions but my SIL has epilepsy and any seizures are just a complete blank to her. The first couple of times it happened she just assumed she'd fainted or dozed off and had no idea she'd been thrashing about. I also had a seizure once myself and when I came round I was completely unaware of anything that happened, certainly not of any physical movement.

Harleyisme · 27/08/2019 15:20

He been asleep 3 hours before this happened so don't think its the jerky movements you have as you go to sleep. The leg pain could be cramp but he wqs comainging of this leg pain all day he does suffet alot from pain.

My brother had cerebral palsy and he used to get quite severe muscle spasm - his arms, legs or face would sudddenly contort and twist. Although it would happen at any time, not just at night. Some people also have involuntary tics or twitches.

Obviously I'm not a doctor and just throwing stuff out from my own experience, but I would definitely ask your doctor about it, it might be something easily treated, or he may be low on some kind of mineral or vitamin that could cause cramps or twitching.

My neice has epilepsy and as a PP said she has awareness of her tonic clonic seizures as she is unconscious. She does have several other kinds of seizure during which she has a degree of consciousness - but none of them involve twitching or twisting.

I hope you manage to find an answer to help the little chap - horrible for you and him to see him in pain Flowers

Harleyisme · 27/08/2019 16:21

Thank you i will mention it to the gp. I just wanted to see others thoughts as like in my op i struggle to get the doctors to listen as its hard to get what my ds is on about at times.
It could be just cramp he has said today that its hurt all day has his leg. He said last week that the anckle of the sameeg hurt then his foot was stinging when walking and the other leg he limps on and swings out when tired. He was awake last night for about 10 minutes at that point but other wose had a good 12 hours sleep but today hes very angry whoch isnt like him and very tired.
