To think school shirts are nasty and uncomfortable?

My dd is starting senior school and the uniform policy is very strict. School shirts must be long sleeved with stiff collar. No problem I thought and picked a pile up in the local supermarket. They are scratchy and uncomfortable, she can barely breathe with the top button done up, can’t bend her arms and god knows where her boobs are meant to go! Seems really horrible that they have to feel so uncomfortable when trying to learn, especially when they must wear a blazer on top even on this heat.
Is there any way round this, where can I buy nice comfortable school shirts that fit a young lady? She’s the size of an average 15 year old- do I go to women’s shops? What do others do as their daughters develop as the supermarket standard issue don’t seem to cater for boobs!

M and S has various shapes but you will pay more than supermarket

Cheap shirts are horrible and uncomfortable regardless of whether they are school shirts or women's work shirts. The issue is cheap, poorly made clothing, not being a school shirt.

Most of our girls buy plain white work shirts from the office sections in womenswear shops. It's also what I did as a student.

When dd1 started year 1 she couldn't stand the feel of the Marks stiff collar around her neck. We switched to Next and it was fine so we carried on with that.
Luckily she has a revere collar at secondary and we've swapped to the school uniform shop (Banner) ones as they are thicker.
Worth trying other shops

As a big boobed teenager, Marks and Spencer’s school shirts were fine for me.

The collar and arm issues just mean she needs a size or two up, I’d think. If those sizes wouldn’t be available in school uniform, then yes you will have to buy from the women’s workwear departments.

Mine are in M&S

Another vote for M&S.

So you bought the cheapest, nastiest shirts available and are surprised theyre ill fitting and uncomfortable?

EmmiJay · 28/08/2019 15:18

John Lewis shirts are nicely cut. They seem to expand well when DD's had a good lunch anyway, none of that ugly gapping shirts do ☺️

SavoyCabbage · 28/08/2019 15:27

They must be too small if she can hardly breathe with the top button fastened.

Most places sell girls and boys ‘cut’ shirts. Your child won’t be the only one with boobs. They do fit in.

I get banner shirts. They are stiff until you wash them.

steff13 · 28/08/2019 15:28

It sounds like they are cheap and the wrong size. I am not surprised they are uncomfortable.

Thanks, we’ve switched to 100% cotton women’s workwear ones and much better feel.
