To try the tip of a bottle of frozen water in front of bedside fan tonight?

No idea of it's a Take a Break Top Tip myth, or if it really works, but inside my house is 30 degrees, so I gotta try something!

The dogs have damp flannels on their napes and their own fan. Grin

What are your tips for keeping cool?

PS: I love the hot weather, just a shame the nights are so unbearable!

Sleep on a slightly damp towel

Thiswayorthatway · 26/08/2019 21:14

Put it behind the fan

SamBeckett · 26/08/2019 21:14

Yes it does work , but put a cloth under the bottle to soak up the condensation , then use the cloth to cool yourself down if you wake in the middle of the night.
half fill a hot water bottle with cold water and stick it in the freezer for a bit.

AdaColeman · 26/08/2019 21:17

Put it behind and slightly above the fan for best effect.

Ooh. Interesting. Will get DP to put bottle on one side of his fan and I will do other side. See which is best on our little fans. Will put them in a little bowl each so the water doesn't damage the furniture.

Worry about the do towel staining the mattress! Sounds cooling though.

A cold 'hot water bottle' was lovely for me in the last heatwave between my feet. You could chill it in the freezer for a little while beforehand but cold water would be better than nothing.

NameChangedForTheDay · 26/08/2019 21:41

Thanks @profpoopsnagle. Shall try that too.

Wet sheet/duvet cover under the shower, wring it out extremely well, enjoy a cool night’s sleep.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 26/08/2019 21:44

(Obviously use the sheet as a cover over your body. We sleep nude though so might be uncomfortable in pjs!!)

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 26/08/2019 21:45

Pop your sheets in the freezer for half an hour before you go to bed. It doesn’t last long but hopefully if the room is cool enough you’ll fall asleep before you heat the bed up.

TheInebriati · 26/08/2019 21:47

I will sleep with freezer blocks wrapped in towels and a cold water bottle.

chesterfuckingdraws · 26/08/2019 21:50

I second the cold hot water bottle. I half filled mine and stuck it in the freezer for a couple of hours (so it sounded like it was all slushy bit frozen solid). Once it was bedtime I wrapped it in a pillow case and cuddled it, worked a treat

ThatCurlyGirl · 26/08/2019 21:53

I called bullshit until I tried it in a miserably hot room abroad but it actually works! Enjoy Smile

Troels · 26/08/2019 21:55

Cool mat you buy for pets, cheap as chips and keep you cool, put it under the bottom sheet Here

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 26/08/2019 21:57

The cooling gel mats that are meant for dogs. One of those under your legs. Bliss!

Some fab tips here.

@Troels thanks for that link. Cheap too.

You can get things called cool towels. You run under tap and squeeze out. When they warmup you flick them and they feel cool again!

lidoshuffle · 27/08/2019 07:17

Lie under a baby's big wet muslin wrung out over your torso. They're also good during the day used damp over your head and neck.

Roll on dark autumn nights under the duvet!
