To wonder how some people poo?

MadamDeMorency · 26/08/2019 16:01

5 - 7 a day is my absolute minimum, about 10 is ideal. I eat loads of fruit and veg, legumes and dried fruit otherwise my digestive system will seize up.

Have I trained my digestive system to need this much? How do some people get away with eating so few?

With great difficulty.

It isn't specifically the amount of fruit n veg you eat that leads to regular bowel movement.
It's your hydration.

It's wrong to think someone who eats mostly meat and carbs will have bad bowels. They'll be fine if they drink enough water.

Likewise, a person on a vegetarian diet but one that is high in salt/dairy/carbs who doesn't drink enough water will get constipated.

Vegetables consist mostly of water so a plate of salad is the equivalent of a drink of water. But you still need to drink water!

flipperdoda · 26/08/2019 20:02

Used to be a once every three days person, after coeliac diagnosis and a gluten free diet I'm now more like three times a day! It was a very disconcerting change I must admit Grin

Aaarrgghhh · 26/08/2019 20:03

I can second that about water. Since upping my intake I go more regularly regardless of the amount of fruit and veg I eat which admittedly isn’t as much as I should be eating.

myidentitymycrisis · 26/08/2019 20:17

I drink 2 litres of water a day, eat mostly veg with a less fruit, some carbs and chicken and fish. Soya milk, cheese rarely. I exercise (run) and I still cannot go. What am I doing wrong?

CoffeenWalnut · 26/08/2019 20:25

@myidentitymycrisis

Try having porridge for breakfast - it's done wonders for my bowels.

lljkk · 26/08/2019 20:32

Eating lots of fibre
getting lots of exercise, especially on one's feet
having some caffeine
drinking plenty of fluid

I tend to believe that people who get constipation must not do any of those things. Unless their circumstances are extremely limiting what they can with their bodies, I wonder WTF they do with their time instead.

managedmis · 26/08/2019 20:34

It's tough isn't it

We just came back from camping : not a jot.

Returned home? Straight back to it

💩

Passthecherrycoke · 26/08/2019 20:36

@myidentitymycrisis 2 bowls of all bran a day will sort you out 👍🏻

Animum2 · 26/08/2019 20:40

Sometimes once a day if that

Doctroo · 26/08/2019 20:43

I'm a recovering alcoholic. I eat a lot of meat but take care ingest at least 5 a day fruit and veg. In the absence of booze, I love food.

Thus, one massive excropapulation in the morning, with the sequel at 4 p.m.

Regular as clockwork.

AAAAAAAHHHH...Nowt quite as satisfying as a gurt bigg shitt.

Passthecake30 · 26/08/2019 20:43

I have about 10portions of f&v a day, and at least 3 litres of water. No tea/coffee.
I don't poo that often, maybe every 3 days, but have always been the same. I don't feel full/sluggish.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/08/2019 20:53

My diet is shit to be honest. I don't eat vegetables regularly (only had one portion last week) and the only fruit I eat is grapes when I'm at work.

No bowel issues here! Although I do drink plenty of water and exercise daily.

WinterHare · 26/08/2019 21:28

The infamous poo troll is probably reading this and weeping...

Cannotresist · 26/08/2019 21:30

You need to drink more water op

EdWinchester · 26/08/2019 21:36

excropapulation qu’est-ce que c’est ? I like this word, but is it made up?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 26/08/2019 21:51

I'm not sure about fruit and veg, but a coffee and a fag will always guarantee an evacuation.

Firm and clean is my barometer for a healthy bowel.

brighteyeowl17 · 26/08/2019 21:54

Are you trying to boast poster? Everyone is different!

NotStayingIn · 26/08/2019 22:30

Well as we really are discussing it...

For absolutely ever I used to go every day at around 10am. Honestly it was insanely predictable.

Then I did a fasting retreat about two years ago and since then I am all over the place.
(Not literally of course, still just in the loo Grin )
