To think bank holidays are hard work?

Don 't get me wrong...the time off is great as is extra pay if working but omg....the crowds! The pressure to do something special and thus year ...the heat! Lets keep bank holidays but ditch the crowds!

We live near a beach so i've taken the kids and dog down to the harbour to do some crabbing, then had a pasty followed by a quick swim. Back home by 2pm to flop! Wasn't too crowded as Holiday makers are heading back now.

That's a great idea berlin. What are Bank Holidays for anyway.

People who work in Mon-Fri 9-5 jobs often don't like being told when to take the days and people who follow other work patterns don't get BHs anyway so miss out on any communal events on the BH because they often have to work.

You've also got the problem of having 4 BHs very close together - often within little over a month if Easter is late, and then nothing else until the end of August - I always seem to get behind during the April/May BH period at work because our office closes and I'm effectively forced to take 4 days leave at quite a busy time.

Yes, have always felt I'd prefer extra leave rather than BHs when everyone else (mostly) is off. But, some employers are very rigid re when staff can take their A/L. So, I can see that BHs do serve a purpose for families to all be off together.
