About this toddler party food menu?

Following on from the other thread, in which I learnt that a toddler party ending at noon needs proper food, can anyone offer views on the following please? Anything missing? Toddler is turning two, guests are two. Clearly some of the food is more for parents, others for kids.

Sandwiches, various fillings
Crisps
Veg sticks and dips
Mozzarella sticks
Filo spinach and cheese pie
Savoury pastry parcels
Fruit bowl (+fruit kebabs?)
Cake
Various soft drinks

My kid will eat anything, so isn't much of a barometer.

EssentialHummus If you want to see some more stereotype posh toddlers come down to Brighton for the day. I’ve been researching local toddler groups for maternity leave next year and of my 2 closest...one has vegan baking and the other has a fire pit for new mums to sit round Grin

Is it even a party if you don't have

Sandwiches
Hula hoops
Party rings
Cadbury fingers
Sausage rolls
Cocktail sausages
Cheese & pineapple sticks
Cut up, buttered French stick
Squash

Kids parties today sound shit. You can keep your veg sticks Susan.

ElizaDee · 26/08/2019 16:02

And what about jelly & ice cream???

JudgeRindersMinder · 26/08/2019 16:08

Top hats, crisps and white bread sandwiches are the law. It’s why parents stay at kids parties!

I’m glad I grew up in the 70s-no crap food like fruit at our parties 😂

HiJenny35 · 26/08/2019 16:08

Cocktail sausages are now on the risk list for choking for under 5's, so I'd avoid, current advice is to slice them lengthwise as with hot dog sausages, popcorn is an absolute no for under 5's as are marshmallows. Grapes are sliced once lengthwise as are cherry tomatoes.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2019 16:27

The only thing that made staying at kids parties with Dd bearable was the sarnies and wotsits.
I bloody love a triangle sarnie.

Parker231 · 26/08/2019 16:47

Nutella and jam sandwiches!

scittlescatter · 26/08/2019 16:51

I would also avoid fruit kebabs as you wouldn't want to weaponise toddlers!

Other than that sounds great

iklboo · 26/08/2019 16:55

Can people please stop suggesting cocktail sausages and sausage rolls? The OP is Jewish.

HiJenny35 · 26/08/2019 17:27

I'm not sure what relevance the op being Jewish is, we are vegetarian and have vegetarian cocktail sausages and veggie sausage rolls, pretty sure op will be well aware of the options.

iklboo · 26/08/2019 17:48

She asked herself for people to stop suggesting them.

wonkylegs · 26/08/2019 18:04

Carrot and cucumber sticks always run out here - with a bit of hummus although that tends to be the parents
I thought my 11yo would have grown out of them so only did Pizza at his party and was met with demands by all of the kids for them

CalmAndQuiet · 26/08/2019 18:08

I would keep the veggie sticks and don’t add biscuits... biscuits and cake is way too much sugar. I personally prefer it when I take my kids to a party And there isn’t tons of sugary options. Esp at age 2.

Stravapalava · 26/08/2019 18:09

Cold pizza
Party rings

CalmAndQuiet · 26/08/2019 18:09

Squash!??? God no.

CalmAndQuiet · 26/08/2019 18:11

Jam sandwiches!??? Do people honestly feed kids this stuff? Way too much sugar.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2019 18:31

You really can't believe kids eat jam sandwiches or drink squash?
Have you been living in a cave?

Parker231 · 26/08/2019 18:34

Surely the point of party food is that it’s fun and food they aren’t fed on a regular basis. The amount of jam sandwiches and party rings a toddler will eat at one party, isn’t going to harm them. Let them enjoy themselves.

BeyondMyWits · 26/08/2019 18:34

haha - in the REAL word - of course they do.

one slice of bread = 2 triangles at a party for a 2 year old seems reasonable.. smear of butter, smear of jam.

Approx 3g sugar. THREE whole grammes

(kind of overloaded with the addition of 3 chocolate fingers and a cupcake... but hey, its a party)

Ithinkmycatisevil · 26/08/2019 18:36

Party rings, cocktail sausages, cheese and pineapple and chocolate fingers are party essentials.

The adults will enjoy them as much as the kids.

EssentialHummus · 26/08/2019 18:37

I'm not offended by reference to sausage rolls, they just aren't going to work I don't think because it's something like two Jews, four full veggies and two pescatarians out of 10 guests +parents, so not much in it. Sadly this doesn't give me any excuse on the smoked salmon and fishball front Grin.

I was going to do the following for sandwiches (basically deli fillers) - OK or too grown up?

Salmon and cream cheese, in deference to this thread!
Egg mayo
Tuna and sweetcorn

No allergies that I know of, and I know the kids fairly well.

(And fwiw I've seen my DD and her friends eat these, so I assume they're ok, but now I'm wondering if we need a jam/whatever option too.)

What else are we supposed to feed them? Fruit? Veg? Jeez.

Lweji · 26/08/2019 18:46

I served chicken sausages when DS had a Muslim kid at one of his parties. I told him and the other kids never noticed the difference.

Queenioqueenio · 26/08/2019 18:48

I suggested squash earlier, please can someone enlighten me is this now frowned upon a la Sunny D of ‘90’s?
My kids are 16,14 & 10, and it wasn’t tooooo bad back then when they were toddlers!
