To not wear antiperspirant to my job in healthcare?

I've tried all sorts, none of which work. I've tried Dove max protection and Triple Dry as well as many of the usual supermarket bought ones. I still end up smelling! I've used Lush deodorant before which doesn't stop me sweating but does get rid of the smell. I don't know what else to try.

WIBU to use the lush deodorant for work but potentially end up with sweat patches on hot / busy days?

if you are really struggling you could try the GP. My 19 year old daughter has hyperhydrosis which is excessive sweating and takes tablets which help . she also tried electrical therapy which wasn't too helpful .

Weathergirl1 · 27/08/2019 20:23

I had hyperhidrosis as a teenager and was prescribed Driclor - I hated it as it stung like mad. Once I got into the 6th form and could pick what I wore it was a lot better. I took up a sport at university relatively seriously and the sweating is much better now - I think because my body now knows how to deal with excess heat better. Anyway, I never use anti-perspirants because when I exercise my body needs to sweat! I use a combination of Bionsen and Trust anti-odorant (small pot available from Boots), both tend to keep the smell away and neither stain clothes. If the Lush bar works to do this for you, I'd stick with it - it is smell that people will be offended by, not wet patches (although if you can try and wear clothes that help with that too it might be worth it).

Really stinky armpit sweat is actually caused by different sweat glands though - the ones that activate when you get stressed (the apocrine glands) as the sweat they produce contains a lot of protein that the bacteria on your skin really like. I definitely get a bit pongy when I'm in a stressful situation.

MummyAng · 27/08/2019 20:23

I used to have bad sweat patches in my early 20s and used driclor, it stopped my sweat patches completely!

WellThisIsShit · 27/08/2019 20:28

I use Odaban, life changing stuff!

I spray it onto a tissue then wipe it on ss my skin is quite sensitive, and it is very strong stuff. I only have to apply it once a week now, at first it was more like once every 2-3 days.

Dilligaf81 · 27/08/2019 20:31

Sorry if it's been suggested but wear what you like for the smell the put panty liners on the inside of your work uniform at the armpits to absorb sweat.

celticprincess · 27/08/2019 21:08

I tried the Driclor. It stung like mad a lot and caused itching. That’s when the GP suggested Botox which I’ve never got. The idea makes me panic. I Lai have hyperhydrosis.

Supermum29 · 27/08/2019 21:16

I suffer from hyperhydrosis here are some things that help me:
I shower usually twice daily but definitely before bed when I then apply dove max strength deodorant, I reapply in the morning.
I wash my underarms with original source tea tree body wash! I won’t use it anywhere else Grin
I soak my tops in soda crystals and really hot water before washing as really helps prevent sweat stains and smelling and it’s cheap!

I’ve tried deodorants prescribed by my doctor all they did was burn my skin but I know others who have got on great with them.

I also have prescription tablets that I take that also help to reduce my sweating and I couldn’t be without them!

Rosebud21 · 27/08/2019 21:17

You need to shower again in the morning and apply deodorant then, showering in the evening, even though you apply antiperspirant will not stop body odour! Mitchum roll on deodorant works for me, antiperspirant spray sometimes, but not all on a day like today (which is annoying as I do my best recycle everything I can)

sorry if this has already been said, I can't read 207 messages... Smile

Mrsgogginsthe3rd · 27/08/2019 21:21

Mitchum and Australian Bodycare tea tree oil shower gel 👍🏻

Rosebud21 · 27/08/2019 21:21

*not all all on a day like today

Drogosnextwife · 27/08/2019 21:24

Pespirex

Darbs76 · 27/08/2019 21:29

I take a roll on anti persperant in my bag and use 3/4 times a day in heat like today. If you’re wearing a uniform is it possible to get changed midway through a shift when the weather is like today and super hot?

Potatoduster · 27/08/2019 21:30

Buy Japanese arm sweat patches and change twice a day if you need to

IAteTheLastOne · 27/08/2019 21:36

Perspirex is really good, I started off using it every other night or so, now I use it once or twice a week plus regular antiperspirant in the morning.

CantGetDecentNickname · 27/08/2019 21:43

Someone mentioned armpit pads earlier and there was a recent interview with a TV host who said she put sanitary pads with wings on the inside of her clothing at the armpits to stop patches.
I’m another fan of showing twice a day, Mitchum but no deodorant at night to let skin breathe and 100 percent cotton night clothing and during day as much as possible. Soap to shower in evening and simple shower wash (less chemicals) in morning as soap can dry my skin. Use vanish bar soap for collar and armpit stains (wet it and rub in then put in wash). Antibacterial hand wipes under arms at work after a hot flush. Hope you find something that works for you OP.

AliceAbsolum · 27/08/2019 22:15

Driclor. Changed my life.

CthulhusMum · 27/08/2019 22:20

Milk of magnesia instead of deodorant or lime juice (can cause irritation with regular use) I find both very effective

GiveUsACoffee · 28/08/2019 00:59

I use Lush. I think it’s brilliant. Keep using it if it works for you. But I would be washing clothes at 60 degrees

HmmGrey · 28/08/2019 00:59

Mitchum gel as other posters have suggested. I use it once after a bath in the evening and it lasts all day. If I’m going to be very active or it’s hot, I apply again in the morning. Also Dettol laundry sanitiser. It kills 99.9% of bacteria so should eliminate any odour.

helpconfused · 28/08/2019 01:00

Mitcham gel is the best

OctoberLovers · 28/08/2019 01:09

"Dettol clothes cleaner" works for germs and smells

Custardee · 28/08/2019 07:37

There is actually surgery for hyperhidrosis, fir severe cases but all other options including Botox would be explored first

amw73 · 28/08/2019 08:01

I use native it's a natural deodorant from the US. Costs about £7 every 2 months. Best I've ever used. No sweat patches either

Rufftumbles · 28/08/2019 08:27

Another one here for Driclor. I used to only be able to wear black & white because my sweat patches were so bad- I’d sweat continuously- even if I wasn’t warm. I tried everything, even Mitchum wouldn’t work until I found Driclor in Boots.

In the beginning, I put it on about 3x a week, then once a week & now it’s 1-2 a month. Put it on at night- it stings and itches like hell but it’s 100% worth suffering initially to get freedom after. For daily use, I just use sure or dove spray & they’re fine now.

LouisaM100 · 28/08/2019 08:54

I feel your pain, I'm currently pregnant and my deodorant has decided not to work, however the best one I've found is either Mitchum or a Japanese brand called Bionsen, u can find it in boots and some supermarkets. It's natural, aluminium free etc but I dont think it's an antiperspirant just a deodrant
