To have gone to sleep with the DC?

Was just drifting off to sleep when I felt something tickling my shoulder. Switched phone on to see what it was and was one of those absolutely epic house spiders about two inches from my nose. I swear I could see all its eyes. I shrieked and tossed myself (and it) out of bed and it disappeared underneath. DH is on a night shift and even if he was here I don't suppose he'd be up for emptying our entire superking ottoman base full of crap in order to move the bed and try to catch it for defenestration purposes. So I've gone to sleep in DS2's bed Blush. He is slightly larger than the spider to share with but at least he's only got four limbs. Even if they are all currently wrapped around me like an overfriendly octopus.

Now just debating whether I should warn DH so he can head straight for the top bunk with DS1 when he gets in at 5.30, or just let him live in blissful ignorance...

Get a cat or two cats. Mine are very effective spider hunter/ trappers

SadOtter · 26/08/2019 01:57

I actually like spiders, my resident house ones have names. @Katzia 20 spiders on your conservatory rafter is not normal!

OP leave DH to it, he'll be fine, but I don't blame you for jumping if it was on your pillow, spiders in my house is fine but on my bed is not.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 02:39

@AveAtqueVale but the worst thing to remember is, whilst you were asleep he rubbed his willy on your face! Shock

Gruzinkerbell1 · 26/08/2019 02:42

Burn your house down.

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 02:48

I'm chuckling at how you will explain to ds why you're in his bed. You can't say it's a spider. It's bad parenting. That's why WE'RE all scared of bloody spiders. You'll have to make something else up. Like you peed the bed. Or had a bad dream. Grin

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 26/08/2019 03:10

.... I really shouldn't of clicked on this thread 😱 run @AveAtqueVale!

Katzia · 26/08/2019 03:20

karenbokarenu yes,I do understand phobia. I used to hate spiders and flies, wasps etc. I was once so terrified of spiders that I didn't go in my bathroom for 2 days until my sister could come and remove the tiniest spider from the bath. I've run screaming from rooms. I've freaked out in the garden if flies go near my hair. With logic reasoning I've got over it mostly, except for things near my hair. Still go totally batshit in the garden most evenings. It's taken years, but weirdly living in the country and being more exposed to them helps.

Katzia · 26/08/2019 03:25

SadOtter it's a very large conservatory and they're in every beam crevice. They just live there. Upside is we are pestered by flies. Past few days, they all came out to hang down and enjoy the heat! Did have to remove the false widow hanging just above the door as didn't want her dropping down on me.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 03:27

@Katzia didn't go in the bathroom for 2 days? You must have very strong bowels and bladder! 😮

Katzia · 26/08/2019 03:33

PhilCornwall1 Said I didn't go in my bathroom. Never said I didn't use others.

cantfindname · 26/08/2019 03:59

I was close to my due date when I woke up as a massive spider ran over my face and then sat on pillow. I swear it was the ensuing mayhem and shock that made my waters break and contractions start in a matter of minutes.

Funny thing is that baby, eldest DS, is brilliant with spiders and clears my house for me with his bare hands (shudder)

PotterHead1985 · 26/08/2019 05:23

Nooooooo Shock

AveAtqueVale · 26/08/2019 08:55

DH has gone to sleep in the DC's room. I need to go into our bedroom soon and raid the floordrobe for work clothes. I just know I'm going to end up wearing the damn thing Confused.

I'm going to drown the whole room in spider spray - is there anything else I can do to make it bugger off?

Worst case scenario we are actually due to move next month. I'm sure I can stand a few weeks on a toddler floor bed...

I was giggling about this thread earlier, that'll teach me! I've just come across a big bugger in the shower. Made me jump bloody feet!! 😩

Gillian1980 · 26/08/2019 10:02

I don’t think I’d ever sleep in there again!!

We’re due to move house soon and I’ve just started worrying about whether the new place is a spidery house.

We have lots of cats who generally sort the spiders out but a few beasts slip past.

Peccary · 26/08/2019 10:17

Get a cat, never see spiders in our house

PotterHead1985 · 26/08/2019 10:29

@Peccary I have three. Doesn't help HmmSadConfused

Camomila · 26/08/2019 10:32

We've hardly had any. I think it's still too hot.
We've got mosquitoes instead though. Spent ages chasing one yesterday that kept trying to land on sleeping DSs face.

What eats spiders? We've got some holes in the garden that my parents think are voles or field mice nests.

AveAtqueVale · 26/08/2019 10:46

Get a cat, never see spiders in our house

My cat is sacked. All he ever does is increase the wildlife in our house. He's very fond of bringing in live mice which are absolute pains in the bum to catch and put out again - he never bloody helps, just sits there looking proud of himself - but his piece de resistance earlier this year was dragging an entire live pigeon through the top window of our living room one evening.

Come to think of it he's probably set up some kind of spider hostelry and is smuggling them in...

Napalm

DrVonPatak · 26/08/2019 11:34

Is it just me or is there something like three gazillion spiders more this year than usual? 😱

Stampy84 · 26/08/2019 12:37

Now that’s a spider 😭

To have gone to sleep with the DC?
PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 13:23

@Stampy84 FFS No!!!!ShockShock

AloeVeraLynn · 26/08/2019 13:29

Stampy84
See, I am a massive embarrassing hysterical spiderphobe but i would rather see that one than a big house spider. I have held tarantulas, stroked them and felt quite calm. Absolutely lose my shit over house spiders though. I wish I could get it together, I really do. The irrational part of the phobia aggravates more.
