To think it’s hypocritical to shun Seaworld but not Disney?

I have a friend who is going to Florida for her next holiday. I mentioned that we’d been to Seaworld many years ago, just in conversation, and she said they wouldn’t go there as they don’t agree with animals captive in tanks. So they’re going to Disney instead.

I pointed out that Epcot, a Disney Park, has a tank of dolphins, a dolphin show and a dolphin encounter for $$$$. Allegedly this is “not the same” Confused

So Aibu to think that it’s hypocritical to virtue signal by boycotting Seaworld because of animal welfare concerns, but quite happily give your money to Disney with their tank of dolphins?

I’ve been to Walt Disney World more than 30 times and had no idea about this Confused.

I’ve just come back from Tenerife, Loro Parque has an Orcas show I refused to take my family there because of this. Siam Park is a water park run by the same company and we went there twice. I know My money is going to the same people but not physically visiting the attraction at least makes you feel like you aren’t supporting it.

Not make people are going to have the chance to see whales in the wild thought are they?

No, but people who can afford to go to Seaworld in Florida definitely could choose to see them in the wild, and for less money.

Interesting range of responses! I still can’t help but think her reasoning is a bit skewed, as no matter how you dress it up, Epcot essentially still has dolphins in captivity. I can imagine Disney are not promoting this at all at the moment as they don’t want the bad press and boycotting that seaworld has.
