I don't understand why you're personally devastated though.

It's a terrible thing but surely it isn't causing you any devastation?

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 01:26

It's awful op.

It's very upsetting. Anyone who can't see the wider impact is stupid or in denial.

Chivers53 · 26/08/2019 02:12

Did you feel bad about them in the 90's when they were regularly just as bad as this year? Did you feel relief when the international community helped to implement policies which reduced them by up to 80%? (Some of the minerals produced by fires is actually beneficial to the growth of the remaining trees, but obviously there's a level this year it is over being a positive). Did you despair when a lot of that work was undone and agricultural practices of burn and clear were started up again? Or is it now that people are more aware of the environment and the fact that it might affect them soon? Not meaning to be goady, but this has been an issue for decades and only this year do people seem particularly arsed.

Macca84 · 26/08/2019 02:17

That does sound a shitty heady attitude tbh, Chivers. So anyone that feels upset and/or wants to take action should have to explain what their previous attitude was first? Makes fuck all sense really Hmm Not to mention that some MNers were only bloody born in the 90s...

Chivers53 · 26/08/2019 02:28

No they shouldn't have to explain, just weird how it's been happening annually for decades but all of a sudden people are really frightened by it because it's been over social media and actually made the news, as once again, people are worried it will affect them. Just curious really.

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 02:33

Just curious. I love the wide eyed 'I'm surprised' bullshit on Mumsnet that's actually a sneaky way for being superior and spiteful.

Someone caring about a current global issue is a good thing. Patronising and trying to make someone feel embarrassed is not.

We all learn more everyday. I'll take good intentions where I can find them. I'll save my spite for someone that doesn't give a fuck.

Macca84 · 26/08/2019 02:33

But... isn't it a good thing that people are taking notice?

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 02:35

@SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum it's a good job not everyone thinks the same way as you and some people are empathetic enough to care about the world rather than thinking 'fuck it, won't directly affect me so whatever'.

Macca84 · 26/08/2019 02:36

"Hi, I want to help the environment!! I'm here and ready"

"Sorry, but no. You've never cared previously so I'm afraid you're excluded from assisting"

😂😂😂

And OP's the weird one.. Riiight

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 02:40

I mean, does children being brutally raped cause me personal devastation? No. Does it make me feel devastated? You bet it does.

Yeah, and ds can go fuck himself too with all his caring about the impending Monarch buttery extinction. He didn't care about it when he was 4. Now he's 6 and he's suddenly interested? Hmm

karenbokaren · 26/08/2019 02:41

Butterfly not buttery. Grin

It's essentially the lungs of the Earth. Whilst the fires are bad enough, it also draws ones attention that we are in the twilight of the human race, mainly due to human stupidity/greed and most of us on mumsnet have children who are facing an uncertain future. I'd say that's pretty fucking personal.

Trebla · 26/08/2019 03:01

this has been an issue for decades and only this year do people seem particularly arsed

Well good. The message is slowly getting through that we are practically fucked as a species and people are starting to take notice. Take your moral high ground and shove it as it isn't helpful.

Knitclubchatter · 26/08/2019 03:06

follow the money, Chinese investments.
china is running out of arable land is investing to develop farm land.

malificent7 · 26/08/2019 04:31

The only good outcome is that it should make the soil more fertile and the trees will hence grow back. However, in these tines of climate change it's scary and the loss of animal life is awful.

malificent7 · 26/08/2019 04:34

And of course it affects us all...did some of you not attend Geography lessons?

TabbyMumz · 26/08/2019 14:56

Don't these fires happen every year, just a bit more this year? Often in places like this, the locals manage fires every year to create new growth.

BeardedMum · 26/08/2019 15:01

The whole climate crisis is devastating and made even more devastating when you consider who is in charge like Trump and his lot. Didn’t even attend the climate discussions at the G7 summit.
