AIBU - does my DH have too many clothes?

I was putting away some laundry the other day and was struggling to find a space to hang up his shirt yet again. Having nothing much to do Hmm I decided to count up just how many shirts he has. This is the tally:-
Shirts/t-shirts: 117
Pairs of trousers/joggers: 39
Jumpers/sweatshirts: 49

AIBU to say that he's got too many clothes and needs to reduce to make more space for mine? Wink

Yes that's a ridiculous number! Get him to Marie Kondo his clothes. Does he hoard other stuff?

Jade218 · 25/08/2019 15:20

Bloody hell I thought I was bad. It's the t shirts that make it totally too much!

And this is coming from a serious shopaholic!

NoSquirrels · 25/08/2019 15:21

Stop washing his clothes. He’s got plenty to last him, after all. 117 shirts will keep him going for months and months.

He needs to Marie Kondo!

ANiceLuxury · 25/08/2019 15:23

Wow!

Nobody needs more than 2 weeks worth of clothes

DelphiniumBlue · 25/08/2019 15:23

That is a lot.
Do you have more? I can come up with lots of arguments as to why women need more space for clothes than men, but not sure if that's what you're asking!

Galaxygirl93 · 25/08/2019 15:36

Time to scale back on his shirts and sell/donate
He surely cant wear all 117...

Tuesday2ndApril · 25/08/2019 15:38

Delphinium - no, I have a fraction of the number of clothes he's got and I don't want or need any more!

Bubbles - I think he probably is a hoarder but not pathological about it - he just loves clothes.

That's a bit ludicrous - even allowing for summer/winter and informal/formal variations on each.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 25/08/2019 16:14

Remove 1 t shirt a week and 1 jumper a month and drop them in a donation bin. In a year his pile will be close to normal and he won't even notice things are gone.

PullingMySocksUp · 25/08/2019 16:16

Wow. About 1/5 of that would be my aim.

fivedogstofeed · 25/08/2019 16:34

My DH would have a similar amount if not more. Last week I removed a dozen work shirts that actually had dust on them and put them in the recycling. Noone can wear that many clothes Angry

littlepaddypaws · 25/08/2019 16:58

bu ? of course you are Grin

NChangingAgain · 25/08/2019 17:03

That is insane. Charity shop!

I bet he wears many of the same things day in day out.

mizu · 25/08/2019 17:08

Grin my DH has around 5 shirts, 2 pairs of jeans and a few T shirts and perhaps 4 jumpers. Seriously ! And we share a clothes rail (although I'd rather not but that's how it is at the mo).
117 tops is crazy.

amylou8 · 25/08/2019 17:08

My XH was like this. Well over 100 t-shirts at one point. He didn't wear 90% of it. He was a horder generally and this extended to his wardrobe. No advice as I LTB for various reasons 😂

Littlewhitedove · 25/08/2019 18:08

Try taking out some of the really old but very dull stuff and see if he notices. If he doesn't (after a few months) it's fair game for the charity shop.
