I am having my mirena coil out in four weeks. I am really nervous that I’m going to bleed heavy for weeks on end. Is this the case?

I didn't bleed much but I did find it very painful but then I always had awful periods.

Doctor used an extra tube of numing gel and it was OK then. Next time I'll ask to be knocked out

I had a scan first as the copper coil had moved quite far back. It was uncomfortable but only sore for 24 hours and I took paracetamol.

I got on the table, they located it, quick tug, slight pinching sensation, that was it. The whole process took less time than taking my knickers off. I spotted lightly afterwards but that was all.

Faster than pulling a tampon out! Not painful really and I only had minor spotting. Periods returned a fortnight later and were regular immediately.

Removed by the practice nurse at my GP surgery. She asked me to take a deep breath in and out. Sharp tug on the exhale and it was gone, I was surprised it was that easy. It was a breeze compared to having the bastard thing inserted. A bit of spotting afterwards, nothing major.

@TheQueef just to say that 'smelly bleeding' might be a sign of infection. I'd get that checked out just in case.

I had mine out recently. It had moved out of place and I was pregnant due to it failing. The GP couldn't do it so I had to go to hospital. It was less painful than having it put in so I wouldn't worry too much. It didn't cause any bleeding.

I've had three out, twice for ttc purposes (once just had another put in immediately). I don't think I had any immediate bleeding any of those times, maybe a bit of spotting. I remember that the second time it took longer for my periods to return. I think first time periods returned after 4 weeks or so, second time it was 7/8 weeks. Also apart from the first period after removal, my periods were much lighter and less painful than before I'd had the Mirena. The removal itself was fine each time, much less painful than when they went in!

I had mine out on Friday. No worse than a smear test and much easier than when it went in. A bit of spotting for the rest of the day but nothing a panty liner couldn’t cope with. Period started with a vengeance this morning! I was hoping for a bit more of a respite but it was not to be!

Had mine out 3 years ago. Did not come out easily but not painful just uncomfortable. Had 2 previous ones which were fine. Decided not to have another one. Was terrified of my heavy periods returning but nothing. Have not had any bleeding since but am 52 so possibly menopausal.

I had my mirena coil replaced last year and it hurt like absolute buggery but I have other gynaecological issues (plus PTSD). I had a small amount of bleeding afterwards but nothing that a panty liner couldn't deal with. Paracetamol and gin sorted the pain.
